Our Mission
In 1964, New York Blood Center was born in the heart of New York City. Challenged with a vision to provide a safe and reliable community blood supply, our founders sought the cooperation and partnership of community and corporate leaders, employees, blood donors, volunteers, and contributors.
Today, as New York Blood Center Enterprises (NYBCe), we proudly serve as a vital community lifeline dedicated to helping patients and advancing global public health through our four-part mission.
- Provide the highest quality blood and stem cell products and related medical and consultative services to hospitals and patients primarily in the greater New York metropolitan area.
- Conduct the highest quality, novel, and innovative research in the fields of hematology, blood banking and transfusion medicine, and cellular therapies, thus advancing these fields and positively impacting public health.
- Develop products, technologies, and services in the fields of hematology, blood banking, transfusion medicine, and cellular therapies with the potential to have worldwide humanitarian impact.
- Train the next generation of leaders in each of these fields.
Internationally recognized for our high humanitarian impact, we deliver lifesaving blood products, specialty pharmaceuticals, and high-quality clinical, technical, testing, and consultative services to healthcare providers and patients.

The FDA has finalized recommendations for establishing a blood donor screening process based on Individual Donor Assessment.
