ABOUT THE ROLE

The Engineer Intern supports quality control, testing, and inspection activities for precast concrete products to ensure compliance with PCI standards and project specifications. This role provides hands-on exposure to plant operations, concrete testing, and engineering processes while working closely with QC and design engineering teams. The internship is designed to build foundational knowledge in quality systems, materials, and continuous improvement.

WHAT YOU'LL DO



  • Shadow Quality Control technicians and support plant inspection activities
  • Assist with concrete testing in laboratory and field environments
  • Learn and support use of Concrete Vision (CV) or similar production tracking systems
  • Perform pre-pour inspections including form checks and setup verification
  • Gain exposure to mix designs, finishes, NCRs, and quality metrics
  • Pour and prepare concrete samples for testing and evaluation
  • Assist with documentation and tracking of quality control data and metrics
  • Participate in root cause analysis for non-conforming product issues
  • Support site visits to identify issues and assist with corrective actions
  • Help develop and improve quality metrics to reduce NCRs and improve performance

The ideal candidate is a motivated engineering student who is eager to gain hands-on experience in precast manufacturing and quality control. They are detail-oriented, curious, and interested in understanding how engineering, materials, and production processes work together to ensure product quality. This individual is proactive, reliable, and excited to learn in both plant and field environments while building a strong foundation for a future engineering career.

IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE



  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Engineering (structural focus preferred)
  • Strong interest in precast concrete, construction, and quality systems
  • Basic understanding of engineering principles and materials science
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities
  • Ability to learn and follow detailed technical procedures
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation
  • Valid driver's license with ability to operate a motor vehicle
  • Willingness to work in plant and field environments
  • Strong motivation to learn and contribute to continuous improvement


WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS



  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting up to 75 lbs occasionally and frequent bending, climbing, kneeling, twisting, squatting, crawling, and repetitive hand/arm use
  • Capable of standing, walking, and moving throughout the facility for extended shifts of up to 12 hours
  • Comfortable working at heights using ladders, scaffolding, swing stages, and man lifts frequently
  • Ability to work safely in a production or field environment with moderate to high exposure to safety risks and hazards
  • Willingness to work in varying environmental conditions, including wet, hot, humid, and cold weather, and outdoors year-round
  • Ability to wear all required PPE, including but not limited to safety boots, safety glasses, hearing protection, high visibility vest, hard hat, and other PPE as required by the task, department, or work area.
