ABOUT THE ROLE

The Engineering Intern participates in the Wells Engineering Development Program (EDP), gaining hands-on experience across quality control, field services, and engineering design. This role provides exposure to precast manufacturing, construction operations, and structural design while working directly with Professional Engineers and field leaders. Interns rotate through multiple functional areas to build technical skills and identify a long-term career path in engineering.

Salary range ($25.00). Based on experience.

WHAT YOU'LL DO



  • Shadow Quality Control technicians and support plant inspection activities
  • Perform and assist with concrete testing in laboratory environments
  • Learn and use Concrete Vision (CV) or similar production tracking systems
  • Conduct pre-pour inspections including formwork checks and readiness verification
  • Gain exposure to mix designs, finishes, NCRs, and quality metrics
  • Pour and evaluate concrete samples for testing and documentation
  • Support root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives using NCR data
  • Shadow field supervisors and assist with layout and jobsite coordination
  • Interpret blueprints and communicate work plans to field crews
  • Assist with survey and layout equipment to verify alignment and installation accuracy
  • Coordinate with dispatch on scheduling, sequencing, and logistics planning
  • Support field operations including crew coordination and jobsite problem-solving
  • Assist with reporting, documentation, and weekly progress updates
  • Follow safety procedures including bracing plans and job-specific requirements
  • Work with design engineers on precast product design including beams, double tees, and wall panels

They are curious, detail-oriented, and motivated to learn how engineering decisions directly impact manufacturing and construction outcomes. This individual is adaptable, team-oriented, and excited to develop technical and professional skills through real-world exposure in the precast industry.

IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE



  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Strong interest in precast concrete, structural design, and construction operations
  • Basic understanding of engineering principles and construction drawings
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to learn technical systems and field processes quickly
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety
  • Ability to work in both office, plant, and field environments
  • Valid driver's license with ability to operate a motor vehicle
  • Self-motivated with desire to learn and grow within engineering field
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities
  • Strong organizational skills and willingness to follow structured training
  • Interest in pursuing long-term engineering career development


WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS



  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting up to 75 lbs occasionally and frequent bending, climbing, kneeling, twisting, squatting, crawling, and repetitive hand/arm use
  • Capable of standing, walking, and moving throughout the facility for extended shifts of up to 12 hours
  • Comfortable working at heights using ladders, scaffolding, swing stages, and man lifts frequently
  • Ability to work safely in a production or field environment with moderate to high exposure to safety risks and hazards
  • Willingness to work in varying environmental conditions, including wet, hot, humid, and cold weather, and outdoors year-round
  • Ability to wear all required PPE, including but not limited to safety boots, safety glasses, hearing protection, high visibility vest, hard hat, and other PPE as required by the task, department, or work area.
