Intern, Public Policy & Government Relations

Overview

The intern will support Alnylam's Public Policy and Government Relations team through a variety of research, writing, and content development tasks. Examples include:

  • Perform research related to Medicare and Medicaid, and other topics related to healthcare such as drug pricing policy, health insurance, Affordable Care Act, Food & Drug Administration, taxes impacting pharmaceutical manufacturers, federal budget, etc., by reviewing laws, regulation, and third-party analyses written by health policy think tanks, non-profit organizations, and academic institutions.
  • Monitor and evaluate federal and state-level policy actions and support the team to prepare PowerPoint slides and other briefing documents to educate internal audiences on impact to Alnylam.
  • Support assessment of federal and state policy and regulatory landscape to ensure that Alnylam is aware and in front of emerging policy issues to enable the company to take advantage of opportunities and mitigate possible threats.
  • Support PPGR team in preparing basic PowerPoint slides on Medicare, Medicaid, and other relevant healthcare topics with relevance to Alnylam as needed.
  • Support PPGR team with basic Excel analysis on a range of relevant topics (e.g., analysis of Congressional interactions) as needed.
  • Partner with PPGR team to assemble internal dashboard as needed to communicate key activities to internal stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Interest in healthcare policy and biotechnology
  • Ability to research a wide range of healthcare topics in a timely fashion and prepare concise summaries of key findings.
  • Strong PowerPoint and research skills; Excel skills a plus.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple issues and tasks and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong writing and ability to simplify complex topics in writing.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple issues and tasks and meet tight deadlines.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to high quality and timely work product.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Interest in public health programs, as well as governmental processes.
  • Knowledge of general federal and state government activities and the policymaking process.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
  • At least 18 years of age prior to scheduled start date
