The X-Ray Tech operates x-ray equipment for the diagnosing and treating disease and injury.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Patient Care Functions


    • Verified patient's identity and reviews providers orders before beginning x-ray procedures
    • Explains procedures and process to patients
    • Moves imaging equipment into the specified position; determines exposure factors on the basis of height, weight, the portion of the body involved, and the degree of penetration required; and adjusts equipment controls to set exposure factors and produce images of proper detail, density, and accuracy
    • Practices radiation protection techniques to minimize radiation to patients and staff
    • Performs specialized and routine diagnostic radiology procedures
    • Maintains accurate records of completed x-ray procedures


  • Administrative/Support Functions

    • Processes images and reviews them for proper identification and quality control
    • Prepares images for reading by the radiologist or requesting physician
    • Performs routine maintenance, diagnoses malfunctions, and makes minor repairs on radiologic equipment, arranging for repairs as needed
    • Completes forms and maintains records, logs, and reports of work performed


  • Other Functions

    • Attends meetings and participates on committees as requested
    • Reviews current literature and attends training sessions and seminars to keep informed of new developments in the field
    • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as directed

Required Qualifications:



  • Associate's degree or bachelor's degree
  • AART (R) Radiology Certification
  • Current and valid Indiana state license
  • Knowledge of current medical terminology to perform various tests and procedures, complete medical records, and communicate with physicians, staff, and patients
  • Knowledge of equipment and testing to perform quality control checks and troubleshooting of instrumentation
  • Knowledge of safety requirements to provide instructions and to recognize hazardous conditions
  • Proficient computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail systems, and web-based programs
  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand information about instrumentation in the radiology/imaging field
  • Demonstrated ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Demonstrated ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Demonstrated ability to interact and communicate with a variety of people, both on a one-on-one basis and in meetings and group presentations; must be able to relate to and work with ill, emotionally upset, and sometimes hostile people
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate and react calmly to emergency situations
  • Demonstrated ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Demonstrated ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
  • Demonstrated ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Demonstrated ability to follow direction
  • Demonstrated ability to think logically in order to troubleshoot, analyze situations, and make appropriate decisions
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
