JOB TYPE Classification: Nonexempt Supervises Positions: No This position is for PRN status. There are no set hours and no benefits for this position. Shifts are usually 6:30am-3:00pm; 2:30pm-11:00pm; 10:30pm-7:00am. One major and one minor holiday required per calendar year. JOB SUMMARY The Cultural Ambassador I will perform a variety of customer services including support, interpretation, and acting as a cultural broker to assist in creating a remarkable patient experience for non-English speaking patients, family members, and visitors. Assists with document translation as needed. Communication: Communicates effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and all levels of authority.
Quality: Reviews processes, identifying and recommending opportunities for improvement.
Patient Service: Actively participates in identifying areas of opportunity to improve the experience for patients and guests.
The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Education: High School Diploma or GED required. 4 Year/Bachelor's Degree preferred. Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in a foreign language medical interpreter healthcare role. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details. Licensure: NBCMI preferred. Additional Skills/Requirements Required: Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation, competency testing and the ambassador onboarding program. Successfully complete departmental oral and written translation assessment. Ability to drive/travel to multiple facilities/locations as needed. Proficient in use of computer software including Microsoft Office suite or similar. Must be a lifelong learner and have the ability to coach and mentor others. Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of authority. Effective critical thinking skills. Additional Skills/Requirements Preferred: Successful completion of medical terminology training within 1 year of hire. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Physical Demand Code: 6A, Customer Service Work Function/Activity: Sedentary to Light Physical Demand The job requires frequent sitting and standing, occasional walking, and bending/stooping. Frequent repetitive arm, hand, and finger movements. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly.
