Description

FUNCTION:

In an assigned area or cell, hold at least two (2) Level II inspection certifications in FPI, MPI, Eddy Current, or Ultrasonic. Utilize these certifications to inspect a wide variety of aerospace production or overhaul and repair parts, components, or subassemblies. Accept or reject parts and materials based on findings and specifications.

TYPICAL DUTIES:



  • Follow established methods and techniques of certification process used, in order to assess the current condition of the part, and determine if the part is accepted or rejected.


  • Exercise some judgment, based on inspection expertise, certification technique applied, and part knowledge, as basis for accepting or rejecting the parts within mandatory specifications.


  • Review and propose changes in inspection or machining methods and techniques to meet new or changed requirements.


  • Perform other in-house certified inspection applications such as Nital Etch, Rockwell Testing, and Conductivity checks.


  • Utilize all available documentation and work with Quality Engineering, and Production Supervision to investigate and resolve reasons for non-conformance of parts.


  • Assist others who are responsible for specialized assignments within the scope and skill level of this job function


  • Refer interpretation NDT matters requiring override or clarification of marginal specimen to Level III NDT certified personnel. Refer other difficulties to Quality Engineer, Supervisor, or higher level NDT Inspector as appropriate.


  • Support Lean Manufacturing/Continuous Improvement initiatives and function on Continuous Improvement teams with inspection or production as requested/needed using assorted techniques and applications


  • Required to hold and re-qualify for various NAS-410 Level II Certifications in areas outlined above.


  • Must possess a skill level that eliminates errors that cause nonconforming material and maintain a consistent level of high quality work. Identify non-conformances at time of occurrence. Recognize opportunities for non-conformances and notify management of need for action.


  • Actively participate in various aspects of Continuous Improvement projects which may include but is not limited to 5S, TPM, kaizen events, and set-up reduction events, which is aligned with the commitment to continuous improvement activities in Article II of the collective bargaining agreement.


  • Identify, recommend, and participate in opportunities to improve environmental health and safety practices throughout the shop.


  • Must be capable & willing to assist or train other employees in this or lower classifications as needed.


  • Refer difficulties to leader or supervisor as appropriate.


  • May be assigned to carry out tasks, not specifically listed, within the scope and skill level of this job description in support of department or cell objectives and to develop individuals' skills.
