Job Summary

IFF has an exciting and challenging opportunity for an Analytical Operations Leader supporting the METHOCELTM and ETHOCELTM production facilities in Midland, Michigan. This position is responsible for the overall Management of Product Quality (MPQ) Testing operations to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and IFF corporate standards.

IFF has an exciting and challenging opportunity for a Quality Control Manager supporting the METHOCELTM and ETHOCELTM production facilities in Midland, Michigan. These growing cGMP facilities produce industry-leading cellulosic products for the pharmaceutical excipient and food markets.

This position is responsible for the overall Management of Product Quality (MPQ) Testing operations to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and IFF corporate standards. It also drives our culture of quality and continuous improvement programs within our lab facilities.

Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Ensure a safe working environment by providing leadership on all safety-related issues and actively participating in plant safety initiatives.
  • Promote inclusion while developing employees to increase skills and facilitate professional growth.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees: addressing complaints and resolving problems. Carries out managerial responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Manages/coordinates the testing of products for a variety of qualities such as microbiological, physical, and chemical characteristics.
  • Recommends modifications of existing quality standards to achieve optimum quality within limits of equipment capability.
  • Responsible for compliance and certification to ISO 9001:2015, FSSC, EXCiPACT, and other Regulatory standards.
  • Ensure that all finished product meets appropriate IFF and FDA quality standards to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Investigate and make recommendations on appropriate lab-related quality issues through the use of records, lab experiments, professional knowledge and observation, and previous work experience to drive operational improvements and internal cost controls.
  • Manage, evaluate, and perform periodic audits of internal and external laboratories to ensure consistent and high-quality standards of services.
  • Support all internal and external laboratory tests, procedures, and methods and the development of new product test methods and specifications in conjunction with the Quality Manager to support customer needs.
  • Model and promote a customer-focused culture within the team.
  • Function as a member of the Midland Management Team providing site-wide leadership and strategic direction to issues affecting the Midland plant such as safety, quality, financial, human resources, environmental, and regulatory concerns.

Please note: The Pharma Solutions business will be taking on its next chapter of growth as a trusted partner for thepharmaceutical industry with the announcement to sell Pharma Solutions to Roquette. This move will positionPharma Solutions to expand its industry leadership through continued investment in innovation to meet theevolving needs of pharmaceutical manufacturers and developers worldwide.
The sale is presently expected to close in the first half of 2025, pending regulatory approvals and other closingconditions. The Pharma Solutions business unit will remain a part of IFF until close and, at such time, it willtransition to Roquette. Job requirements:

Education:

BS Degree in Life or Chemical Science; Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Food Science or similar science-based degrees preferred.

Qualifications:

A minimum of five years in a food, chemical, or manufacturing/lab environment with a minimum of two years of experience in quality control or quality assurance functions is preferred.

A minimum of two years of experience supervising a team is preferred.

Authority to work in the United States now and in the future.

Preferred knowledge skills and experience:

  • Food and/or pharmaceutical quality management system knowledge with specific knowledge of ISO 9001:2015, FSSC, and EXCiPACT regulatory requirements. (preferred).
  • Knowledge of advanced analytical testing including, but not limited to; Laboratory Information Management Systems, Liquid Chromatography, Gas Chromatography, X-ray fluorescence, pH, LOD, and viscosity.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills: demonstrated ability to work effectively, professionally, and respectfully in a diverse team-based environment to involve peers, customers, line management, and technical competency experts.
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills.
  • Strong leadership, verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence teams and resolve conflicts in support of organizational goals.
  • Excellent at active listening and communication, both written and verbal.
  • Can coach and positively influence behavior change in others for the benefit of the organization.
  • Basic statistical skills.
  • Computer and technical literacy; demonstrated skill in the use of Microsoft Office software (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, Excel).
  • Continuous improvement mindset - eliminates non-value-added work for the organization. Project execution capability at the green belt level is preferred.
  • Fully versed in the application of Management of Change.
  • Comfortable and competent at interfacing with external organizations.
