Primary Responsibilities

HDR Engineering is looking for a Bridge EIT/Inspector to join our National Infrastructure Inspection Team. The Bridge EIT/Inspector will be expected to perform local and national bridge inspections and occasional office engineering (design, CADD, analysis). They will also assist the lead inspector in performing bridge inspections and preparing reports in accordance with NBIS (National Bridge Inspection Standards) on a regular basis.

In the role of Bridge EIT/Inspector, we'll count on you to:



  • Participate in local and national bridge inspections, develop inspection reports, and perform structural load rating calculations
  • Work in a team environment and independently while challenging yourself to acquire knowledge and experience in engineering
  • Support the bridge design group and other disciplines by applying structural engineering and detailing techniques in the development of structural designs
  • Perform other duties as needed


Preferred Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
  • Master's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate or ability to obtain promptly
  • 0-2 years' bridge/structural inspection and design experience
  • Completion of NHI 130055 Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges training
  • Must be willing to work with other disciplines (bridge design, roadway design, hydraulic analysis, stream restoration, planning, traffic control) within the office, as necessary, during inspection downtime
  • Must possess a valid driver's license, and have the ability to travel for multiple night stays during the week
  • This position requires physical ability to perform field inspections of in-service bridge and culvert structures, tunnel structures, highway structures, overhead sign structures, hydraulic structures, and metal traffic signal poles
  • Physical demands include positioning extension ladders, maneuvering small boats, driving long distances, confined space, air travel, occasionally working at night, and walking long distances on uneven surfaces
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must have good communication skills and be willing to work in multi-disciplinary team environment
  • Candidate should expect exposure to environmental hazards, such as, but not limited to, warm and cold temperatures, water, work-at-height, poisonous plants, snakes, ticks, spiders, and other creatures
  • Candidates without their EIT will be placed into a Design Coordinator job code and will be expected to obtain their EIT for career progression
  • Familiarity with engineering software packages such as: LEAP Bridge Enterprise, FB-MultiPier, LPile, AASHTOWare BrR, midas Civil, MDX, SAP2000, CSiBridge, ADINA, RM Bridge, spColumn, LUSAS, STLBridgeLRFD, or STLBridge,
  • Experience in bridge/structural design

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • MS Office, MathCAD and AutoCAD, LARSA and Prestress Concrete Design experience
  • Familiarity with Bluebeam Revu and knowledge of engineering software packages such as: LEAP Bridge Enterprise, FB-MultiPier, LPile, AASHTOWare BrR, midas Civil, CSiBridge, RM Bridge, spColumn, STLBridgeLRFD, or STLBridge.
  • Bently OpenBridge Modeler and/or Autodesk Infraworks and Civil3d
  • Strong understanding and hands-on use of computers for structural layout and design
  • Good communication skills and willing to work in a team environment
