The Physical Therapist II will be responsible to provide advanced skill level physical therapy service to a wide spectrum of pediatric disabilities/diseases. Must be knowledgeable in therapeutic exercise, abnormal and normal development, and modalities such as hydrotherapy and electric therapy. Work collaboratively with leadership, and program manager to provide updates for clinical and administrative operations of Rehabilitation Program and specifically with Physical Therapy Department. This role is serving pelvic floor patients within the Colorectal Department. CHILDREN'S NATIONAL HOSPITAL Division of Colorectal Surgery and Pelvic Reconstruction https://childrensnational.org/departments/colorectal Physical Therapist Position The Division of Colorectal and Pelvic Reconstruction at Children's National Hospital in Washington, DC is seeking a Physical Therapist II for Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy and treatment. The center provides state of the art colorectal care for children and adolescents with Hirschprung disease, anorectal malformations, spinal anomalies, and functional constipation. The program is led by Surgical Director, Dr. Marc Levitt who has performed more than 15,000 pediatric colorectal procedures, more surgeries covering the entire spectrum of problems involving the colon and rectum than have been performed by any other full-time practicing pediatric surgeon in the world. In addition to Dr. Levitt's expertise, our integrated and comprehensive Center provides the complex multispecialty care these patients require. collaboration with Colorectal surgery, Urology, Gynecology, Neurosurgery, Nephrology, Pathology, Orthopedics, Cardiology, Psychology, Radiology, Gastroenterology, Otolaryngology, and Nutrition Therapy takes place to facilitate best outcomes for our patients. Beyond these medical providers, the Division provides a highly trained interdisciplinary team including Colorectal Nurse Clinicians, Advance Practice Nurses and Physician Assistants, Social Work, and Child Life Specialists. Research findings and involvement with the Pediatric Colorectal and Pelvic Learning Consortium (www.pcplc.org) allow our team to provide best practices founded in evidence Ideal candidates will have expertise in providing consultation and outpatient treatment to children affected by urinary and bowel incontinence, and multiple surgeries. Experience in working with youth from birth through adulthood with colorectal, urological, gynecology, or gastrointestinal populations is highly desirable. The therapist will also participate in the colorectal bowel management program supporting families and adjusting to new bowel management regimens after surgery through pelvic floor physical therapy. The unique collaborative model has the team's physical therapist embedded in the program; an integral part of the multidisciplinary team comprised of colorectal surgery, gynecology, gastroenterology, urology, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nursing staff, and case management. All patients are screened prior to being seen, and the therapist sees all patients in need of care. The Center sees the most number of patients, the most complex, and the most geographically diverse of any similar program in the world. Children and their families from 61 countries and 47 US states have sought care from this team since 2020. Surgical advances, pioneered by Dr. Marc Levitt, Division Chief, have markedly increased the quality of life for these patients, but the condition remains a major challenge for the affected patients and their families. Although the primary focus of the position is on clinical care, research and other scholarly activities (e.g. presentations in conferences, publications etc.) are highly desirable.
