Overview

Job Summary

Operates and maintains mechanical, plumbing, and electrical equipment under the guidance of senior trade personnel. Complies with state and local codes through the guidance of the senior trade personnel.

Essential Functions

  • Makes minor repairs and replacements to HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems as assigned.
  • Performs a variety of repairs and maintenance as required to ensure that safety and patient care are not affected.
  • Secures parts and supplies through the storeroom. Selects and requests materials appropriate for the assigned jobs.
  • As directed reads blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and manuals to implement work under the guidance of senior mechanics.
  • Performs documentation of timesheets and work orders using computer systems. Fully utilizes the computerized maintenance management work order system.
  • Collects and records regulatory documentation.
  • Performs a variety of routine maintenance tasks and/or inspections on assigned equipment or area, including aesthetic repair needs.
  • Assists outside service personnel, inspectors, and vendors.
  • Demonstrates good verbal and written communication skills to interact with all levels of hospital personnel.
  • Observes and follows all safety and security regulations, department, and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Self-assesses tasks and priorities.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift 75 pounds while taking materials to and from sites. Must be mobile within entire facility campus including ability to access roof tops and crawl spaces. When performing diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of assigned equipment, will frequently be required to climb, lift, crawl, squat, and kneel to access jobs. Possible exposure to electrical shock hazards, severe weather conditions, infectious disease, and hazardous chemicals.

Education, Experience and Certifications

High School Diploma or GED required. One year of applicable experience with construction, maintenance, or facilities operations preferred. Vocational training preferred. Healthcare experience preferred. Valid driver's license required.
