SUMMARY

This job requires the identification, safe handling and accurate storage, and placement of product following inspection. Operator must coordinate with Quality Assurance technicians to allow for timely movement of production into inventory after inspection. Must follow establish practices for safe, organized, and orderly storage of product. Knowledge of yard layout, products, production levels, and forklift operation is essential. Development of skills for assessing load parameters allowing the safe, accurate, and efficient placement of finished product on flatbed trailers to insure maximum loading, while maintaining stable transport properties is also required. Individual will also assist other shipping personnel with load preparation, inventory counts, inventory status assessment, unloading raw materials and other duties as required by the Shipping Supervisor.

DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, and SKILLS

Perform the primary thinking encompassed by this job description. Comply with all Company policies and procedures. Follows all safety rules in the yard, including safety regulations pertaining to truck drivers loading and unloading, and forklift operation.

Identifies every product that leaves production, and following proper inspection, transports the production into the yard to the appropriate storage location.

Maintains inventory organization, and packaging and storage integrity in preparation for shipment. Puts together partial units for Shipping Operator A & B, as needed. Ensures that shipments contain no damaged or sub-standard product and no improperly assembled units. Repairs broken or incomplete units. Accountable for safe operation of forklift, and damage of product and other assets. Develops skills in loading product on transport vehicles. Develop skills for operating handheld computers and using established procedures for inventory, loading, and scrapping. Maintains constant contact with Supervisor and Shipping team with respect to all shipping priorities and progress.

Keeps yard clear of debris. Assists other shipping and plant personnel as needed. Accountable for performing daily inspections and maintenance checks on equipment. Responsible for following safe work habits, and exhibiting positive attitude, and focus on company goals.

Provides input at shift meetings concerning goals, problems, accomplishments, etc. Duties are not limited to this job description; you may perform other duties as instructed by the Supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS

There must be proficiency in all aspects of the job. Successful performance requires the individual to maintain a personal sense of urgency and the ability to perform at optimum levels at all times. A background check is mandatory.

Employee must have a safe work record, display safe work practices, and does NOT require repeated or in-frequent reminders to follow safety procedures. Employee must meet company's attendance requirements stipulated on skill tests to be considered for promotion.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

A high school diploma or G.E.D. is preferred. Previous forklift experience is preferred. Employee must have a minimum of 4 months experience as Shipping Operator- Trainee to be considered for this level. Although time in position is a requirement it will not be the only factor in advancement and does not guarantee advancement.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving vehicles, both forklifts and tractor-trailers, in the yard. The work is outdoors. The employee is exposed to all weather conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and vibration.
