A Postdoctoral Associate position is available at the Animal Sciences Department in the laboratory of Dr. Igor Shmarakov. Candidate must have a Ph.D. degree in an area relevant to biochemistry, cell biology, or physiology. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, a publication record consistent with career level, and an interest in understanding the molecular basis of retinoid metabolism and signaling. Experience in animal models of lung injury, lung cell isolation, lung organoid cultures, immunofluorescent staining of tissues and cells, gene expression analysis by qRT- PCR and immunoblot, lipid extraction and analysis using HPLC, analysis of datasets generated by bulk or single-cell RNA sequencing. Salary will be commensurate with NIH and Rutgers guidelines. The position is based in the Shmarakov laboratory, an interdisciplinary and energetic research group housed on the Cook campus of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ. As a postdoctoral associate, the candidate would have abundant opportunities to interact with members of the vibrant community with a research focus on lipid metabolism and signaling, endocrinology, respiratory toxicology, and lung injury within Rutgers University and the Department of Animal Sciences. The campus is also in close proximity to the cultural and scientific offerings of both NYC and Philadelphia.

The Department of Animal Sciences, with strong roots in the land-grant tradition, has as its mission "to improve the health and well-being of animals, including humans, through integration of teaching, research, and outreach." Animal Sciences is a popular major for many students at Rutgers with over 450 students enrolled in one of the five options: Pre-veterinary Medicine and Research, Laboratory Animal Science, Equine Science, Production Animal Science, and Companion Animal Science.
