A postdoctoral position is immediately available for a candidate to work on molecular mosquito-arbovirus interactions in the laboratory of Dr. Alexander Franz, Dept. of Veterinary Pathobiology at the University of Missouri (https://cvm.missouri.edu/veterinary-pathobiology/). The position is for a collaborative, NIH-funded research project to 1) further develop and optimize a group of highly innovative antiviral effector molecules; 2) generate transgenic mosquitoes harboring these novel effectors; 3) test the transgenic mosquitoes for their level of resistance to a range of arboviruses including Zika, chikungunya, and dengue viruses. Fully equipped laboratories (BSL2 and BSL3), insectaries, and excellent on-campus core facilities are available to conduct these studies. The Department of Veterinary Pathobiology is an integral component of the College of Veterinary Medicine that provides a unique and critical link between the basic and clinical sciences. Our mission is to acquire, advance and disseminate knowledge in the fields of pathology, parasitology, microbiology, immunology, comparative medicine, genetics and related disciplines that will ultimately lead to better diagnosis, control and prevention of animal and human diseases and to provide training of the next generation of researcher scientists. Our Campus and Our Community: MU is a nationally competitive, global university. Many states fund separate research and land-grant universities, but Missouri combines those roles at its flagship institution. MU is both a land-grant university with a statewide mission of service to citizens and Missouri's largest public research university. MU is one of only five universities nationwide that offers law, medicine, veterinary medicine, and a nuclear research reactor on one campus. MU is a national leader in comparative medicine, in which researchers collaborate by sharing discoveries, innovations and treatments for humans and animals. Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications * PhD in Microbiology, vector biology, entomology or virology * The candidates will have considerable experience in one or more of the following: Molecular research on arthropods, molecular biological laboratory techniques, mosquito genetics/transgenesis, and/or study of mosquito-arbovirus interactions.
