Job Summary

The Assistant Director collaborates with the Division's Finance and HR leadership and works with various levels of executive leadership on the management of multi-functional areas, finance and human resources, for the Student Centers (Graham and Wolfe Center) and Wellness and Recreation Centers (WRC) on all FIU campuses. Serves as the main point of contact on any matter of Finance and HR to upper management by university and community constituencies for those Centers. Assist the Centers management in developing a unified student-centered operations model.

  • Serves as the main point of contact on any matters of Finance and HR to executive leadership/management by university and community constituencies for the Student Centers (Graham and Wolfe Center) and Wellness and Recreation Centers (WRC) on all FIU campuses.
  • Analyzes, makes recommendations, and performs all functions for the annual budget (over $12 million) and forecasts for Graham Center, Wolfe Center, Campus Recreation MMC and Campus Recreation BBC units for all funds, including A&S, E&G, Auxiliaries, Affiliations, and Foundation funds, with guidance from the respective leaders.
  • Oversees and monitors the day-to-day fiscal operations of the units, including maintaining financial transactions, purchasing functions, departmental credit card procedures, reimbursements, travel procedures, cashiering, reconciliation, and ID/cash/budget transfers, including processing merchant receipts.
  • Provides input into budget development and cost-effective management. Prepares reports and proposals involving analysis and compilation of data. Sets priorities and establishes guidelines for report generation to meet special departmental objectives.
  • Provides direction on human resource functions including but not limited to the timely processing of new hires, staffing, and payroll; orientation of new employees; overseeing training, development, and compliance matters; and liaising to effectively communicate HR matters.
  • Works directly with the Division's Finance and HR leadership to interpret and communicate policies and procedures for financials and human resources. Makes recommendations for the units and interprets federal, state and/or University guidelines, policies, and procedures on all levels of financial and HR actions.
  • Consults with leadership on unit structure development, identifies unit needs or current state, and identifies growth opportunities for center employees.
  • Supervises and appraises employee performance and recommends improvement plans for deficiencies.
  • Participates in the training for administrative staff in the centers.
  • Represents the units on committees, task forces, and/or initiatives related to the finance and human resources matters, as needed.
  • Serves as a University card user for departmental transactions. Adheres to University credit card policies and procedures. May handle cash or check transactions as needed.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in business, education or related field and four (4) years of related work experience or Master's degree in business, education or related field and two (2) years of related work experience.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in financial planning and management, financial reports.
  • Experience with financial systems such as PeopleSoft, including its accounting, payroll, and reporting components.
  • Experience with HR policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Knowledge of higher education/student personnel for Student Centers and/or Campus Recreation.
