Sr. Instrumentation Engineer

SUMMARY

This position will be responsible for the research, design, and implementation of capital and maintenance instrument projects; will provide technical support for maintenance, construction oversight, and stewardship of the facility instrument and control systems; will ensure that procedures, documents and drawings are updated and maintained.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Demonstrates strong safety culture through personal behavior and commitment to environmental, health & safety.
  • Participates in the PACE culture of safety.
  • Develop preliminary scope for the instrument, control, and analytical portion of capital and maintenance projects.
  • Develop and provide cost estimates to project engineers.
  • Develop and manage capital projects for new instrument, control, and analytical systems
  • Communicate with vendors to determine applicability of products.
  • Develop detailed equipment specifications to ensure all necessary equipment, drawings and vendor provided services are identified and detailed.
  • Evaluate vendor bids for conformance to specification and recommends appropriate vendor to purchasing.
  • Direct instrument designers in the creation of engineering construction packages. This includes drawings, instructions and specifications.
  • Develop and write engineering procedures and site standards.
  • Review and approve instrument, control, and analytical design packages.
  • Provide technical support to maintenance instrument supervisors and technicians.
  • Review instrument test reports and develop projects to correct deficiencies.
  • Provide technical help to investigate equipment and system failures and recommend corrective actions.
  • Technical resource for SIS, instrumentation, and analytical systems.
  • Serve as the site SIS steward ensuring all SIS documentation and requirements are satisfied and maintained for all SIFs throughout the facility.
  • Develop and maintain 5-year plan, with cost estimates, for DCS, PLC, and analytical system upgrades
  • Actively involved in current DCS and PLC upgrade projects
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering; Electrical Engineering preferred
  • PE certification desired
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience providing instrument, control, and analytical engineering design concepts, estimates, specifications, construction oversight and startup of new projects.
  • Experience in DCS design, layout, and configuration preferred. Honeywell or ABB knowledge preferred.
  • Experience in SIS system design, installation, and maintenance.
  • Ability to troubleshoot instrument and analytical systems.
  • Successfully manage multiple complex projects.
  • Proficient computer skills, with good working knowledge of all standard company applications (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written
  • Self-directed and motivated
  • Good leadership skills

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Additionally, this position must make general decisions requiring judgement and perform activities requiring sustained concentration.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is sometimes moderate when working in an office, however, some of the work may be required in the operating units which mandates usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc. May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators. Travel including air travel or auto travel may occasionally be required.
