Job Summary:

UW Health, along with the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH), is seeking a Associate Chief Medical Information Officer, on the CT or CHS Track.

Through a combination of coordinated teamwork and sophisticated individual effort the Associate Chief Medical Information Officer (aCMIO) will provide clinical leadership in evaluating, implementing, and advancing diffusion of health information technology at UW Health. An emphasis will be placed on the primary utilization of the Health Link electronic health record. This position will represent the provider community in decisions about technology functionality and usability, ensuring alignment with the tripartite mission. Offer strategic leadership to enhance physician practice, support operational needs, comply with regulations, and establish a foundation for analytics. The SMPH home department will be determined at the time of hire.


Responsibilities:

It is expected that the candidate will participate in teaching, clinical duties, and service as a faculty member at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The successful candidate will also participate in professional, public, and university service appropriate to the faculty rank. The candidate will be expected to teach medical students, residents, and fellows.

UW Health physician leaders are expected to provide effective leadership for consistent delivery of high- quality, cost-efficient, and satisfying healthcare. They must embody UW Health Leadership Competencies and adhere to the UW Health Way, emphasizing shared responsibility for delivering "Remarkable Healthcare." In supporting this goal, leaders champion excellence in both culture and performance management, with Physician Informaticists performing standard work to contribute to this achievement. Collaborating with administrative partners, Physician Informaticists establish and maintain a team-based care culture, fostering a patient-centered and satisfying work environment. The aCMIO is responsible for maintaining comprehensive knowledge of performance measures, identifying improvement opportunities, implementing action plans, and utilizing the UW Health Way to drive positive changes in targeted areas.

The aCMIO will attend to tasks in a predictable and reported fashion at Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, and Annually cadence with these self-determined duties coordinated throughout the team and directed by the CMIO. These will change according to organizational targets and the needs of the IS and Informatics department but will consistently revolve around our organizational strategies and our shared missions, competencies, and UW Health Way directives.

ANNUAL GOALS AND EXPECTATIONS
Professional duties to be shared between informatics and clinical practice. It is expected that a clinical practice be maintained which should curate a deep understanding of clinician and care teams needs, opportunities, and limitations.

Partner with the CMIO, Associate CMIOs, Nursing Informatics, Pharmacy Informatics and other IS leaders on establishing Information Systems strategy and specific annual initiatives with a goal of continued process improvement and learning.

Identify opportunities for and participate in scholarship activities by working with interested partners to potentiate mutually beneficial developments and outcomes through the bountiful intersection of clinical, research, academic, and applied informatics entities within UW Health and UW SMPH.

Maintain a constant mindset towards User Centered Design, Usability heuristics and User Experience principles. The aCMIO will identify opportunities for up-skilling and application of these concepts to self, informatics partners, organization, and vendors for the mutual benefit of all.

Lead, facilitate, and/or participate in groups that advise on the design and implementation of health information technology. The team of aCMIOs will coordinate these functions with the CMIO and for the greater MI team through a flexible, resilient fashion. These groups will evolve as the IS and Informatics team integrates and matures as well as the evolution that comes from external factors (the ever-changing organizational priorities and structures, as well as the disruptive fast-paced health tech environment).
a. The team will develop and maintain a Medical Informatics personnel and groups registry, representing current state information, on the MI SharePoint site which will be reviewed and updated every 6 months (June and November). The registry will include:

Personnel name
MI personnel clinical and informatics assignments.
Group Membership & leaders
Group Purpose (& charter, if applicable)
Group Hierarchical accountability (and associations)
Maintain collaborative and shared efforts between aCMIOs to "run-the-business" activities. Including but not limited to:
Collaborate with Care Team oriented operational, IS and informatics, and support teams to optimize the care team's utilization of Health Link and other health IT functionality.
Oversee the development of education and training for students, residents, and faculty in the use of health IT. Similarly, we will share the development, deployment, inspiration, and monitoring of similar processes for ourselves and our partners within medical informatics.
Participate in shared responsibilities including but not limited to the Physician Informatics on call schedule, new faculty onboarding classes, and up-skilling sessions for our MI partners, IS partners, and the UW Health community at large.
Participate in efforts that maintain UW Health and UW SMPH as an industry leader in healthcare and applied informatics. Including but not limited to:
Attend Epics Physician Advisory Committee (PAC) and User Group (UGM / XGM) meetings.
Maintain certifications and credentials required of the job and specifically called out elsewhere.

Proudly represent UW Health at local, regional, and national informatics conferences through participation, presentation, leadership and professional decorum.

Qualifications:

Strong interpersonal, leadership, decision-making, and team-building skills.
Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Supports collaboration and EHR confidentiality.
Effective communication with healthcare providers, organizational leadership, vendors, and staff.
Ability to represent the clinical enterprise outside of one's specialty/department.

3 years of clinical practice required
3 years of medical/health informatics leadership experience required
Ideal candidate would have minimum of 5 years clinical practice at faculty level.
Experience in leading implementation/optimization of health IT systems across ambulatory and inpatient enterprise at a tertiary/quaternary organization preferred

For appointment at Associate Professor or Professor rank on CHS Track, candidates will meet criteria established by the department and as outlined in the School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for promotion or appointment to Associate or Professor on the CHS Track.
