Job Overview

The School of Public and International Affairs (SPIA) at the University of Cincinnati invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor-Educator in Law and Society. SPIA offers an MPA, MA and PhD in Political Science as well as three undergraduate BAs (Political Science, International Affairs, and Law and Society). SPIA also houses three research centers-the Portman Center for Policy Solutions, the Center for Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation (CTRHT) and the Center for Cyber Strategy and Policy (CCSP).

Assistant Professor-Educator positions typically have an initial appointment of 3 years with reappointment to a 5-year contract. Promotion to Associate Professor-Educator is possible after 5 completed years based on School promotion criteria (and Full Professor-Educator subsequently). Reappointment and promotion are based on excellent performance in pedagogy, teaching, and service (committee work, advising, recruitment and retention efforts) and while remaining current in salient research trends being covered in classes taught.

The appointment is intended to begin August 15, 2025

Essential Functions

* Teach students principally in our undergraduate programs, including Political Science, International Affairs, and Law & Society majors, as well as a course in our MA-PhD graduate program.

* The course load for the position is 3-3 (three courses per 2 semesters). Applicants will be expected to teach courses on Law and Society, Courts and Judicial Processes, Constitutional Law, Judicial Politics and other courses that can be tied to their expertise, including courses focusing on specific legal or constitutional questions, fields, and the intersection of social and legal structures.

* Service activities will include committee work such as but not limited to serving on SPIA program committees, advising students, as well as recruitment and retention efforts.

Minimum Requirements

PhD in Political Science or a related field prior to effective date of the appointment.
