What your job will be like: Do you have a passion for solving technical challenges in pursuit of groundbreaking science? We are seeking a skilled, self-motivated individual to join our Mechanical Engineering Group as a Mechanical Engineer I whowill provide general mechanical engineering support for the design of elements installed in detector systems and particle accelerator beam lines. Examples of such elements are electromagnets, support structures, beam diagnostics, and superconducting accelerator elements. The position will draw on education and practical experience in machine design, material science, structural, thermal, and fluid mechanics design using calculations as well as finite element analysis (FEA). Additionally, the incumbent will use 3D computer aided design (CAD) tools for component and assembly design as a precursor to analyses and fabrication. This engineer will work individually or as part of a team on the large-scale project. The successful candidate is expected to provide engineering support for projects from concept through design, fabrication, assembly and commissioning. The engineer will be required to plan their time on assigned tasks and provide this information to the Project Engineer for planning and tracking of progress. The candidate will be required to present technical reports, defend the design during design or safety reviews and produce system documentation. The engineer will work with scientists, design staff, technicians and other engineers as the need and project complexity grows.
