Work Schedule Monday-Friday 7:00AM-3:30PM

Minimum Compensation $38,064
General Responsibilities
Provide general maintenance to the campus building, grounds and mechanical systems to provide an environment that is comfortable, safe, healthy and conducive to teaching, learning and working.
Work Performed

  • Perform routine daily inspections and maintenance of equipment assigned.
  • Performs tasks in various trades assigned and scheduled by the supervisor to maintain college buildings and equipment.
  • Performs minor repairs, installations and replacement of electrical and plumbing equipment, appliances using necessary hand tools and testing instruments.
  • Performs minor carpentry, wallboard, and floor covering installation and repair.
  • Performs minor painting and wall covering installation and repair.
  • Maintain logs and other records as directed.
  • Acts in role of essential personnel for emergencies.
  • Assist Mechanics to Performs preventive maintenance of equipment.
  • Records time and materials expended on each work order.
  • Assist troubleshooting and repairs to mechanical equipment.
  • Assist with shutdown and startup of mechanical systems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Other Knowledge Required
Prior experience as a general maintenance mechanic, preferred.
High school diploma or equivalent.
OSHA Safety Regulations

OTHER REQUIRMENTS

  • Physical strength and stamina to perform heavy physical tasks for long periods.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Regular attendance is a requirement of this job.
  • Ability to make quick decisions under stress.
  • Performs all duties while considering the impact of any actions on the college's sustainability initiatives in the areas of environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and economic prosperity.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to lift 75 pounds 12 inches off the ground and place on a flatbed cart; 40 lbs from floor to overhead, and walk 10 feet carrying 45 lbs.
  • Ability to work from scaffolds (s) and climb ladders

Working Conditions

  • Requires performing regular job functions in an environment, which includes exposure to continuous physical elements or a number of disagreeable working conditions with frequent exposure to minor injuries or health hazards.
  • Work in extremes of noise, temperature, humidity and inclement weather.
  • May be subject to being on call, carrying beeper, cell phone or two-way radio, working with hazardous materials, schedule changes based on the needs of the College and long hours to complete/perform scheduled or emergency functions/projects
  • Must adhere to all safety standards as established by the Plant Operations.
  • Work in Mechanical rooms, crawl spaces and tunnels where conditions will be dirty, dusty and sometimes muddy.
  • Work in high places on roofs or ladders and on scaffolds.
  • Work in close proximity to electrical transformers and switcher with high voltage in excess of 13,000 volts.
  • The use of personal protective clothing and equipment
  • Schedule may be subject to change
  • Work schedule is 40 hours a week.
  • Work overtime and call-in, as requested.


SOME OVERTIME IS REQUIRED. LEAVE APPROVAL MAY BE LIMITED DURING PEAK ACTIVITY PERIODS.

As a participating member of the Maryland Retirement and Pension System, HCC offers two retirement options: The Pension, which requires a 7% employee contribution and The ORP, a 403(b) with a 7.25% employer contribution only. Employees in positions that do not require a bachelor's degree must participate in The Pension. Employees that possess a bachelor's degree and hold professional positions that require a bachelor's degree may choose to participate in either The Pension or The ORP.
