DLZ is looking for a Safety Coordinator in Columbus, OH. This is a individual contributor position reporting to the corporate office in Columbus, OH. The Safety Coordinator will be responsible for the distribution and implementation of the corporate occupational safety program in DLZ's Ohio, Michigan, and Pennsylvania operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

  • Coordinate the implementation of corporate occupational safety programs in assigned region.

  • Travel to regional offices and job sites approximately four days per week; a monthly vehicle allowance will be provided.

  • Perform at least two project site audits per week to assess compliance with DLZ and site-specific client safety procedures; communicate findings via written report to project managers, audited employees, and senior leadership.

  • Identify safety knowledge gaps. Conduct workshops and provide advice concerning all local, state, and federal safety and environmental regulations, and company safety policies as needed.

  • Review Project Safety Plans and Job Hazard Analyses. Recommend changes that capitalize on opportunities to eliminate work place accidents and injuries, and the development of site-specific safety procedures.

  • Order required personal protective equipment, arrange necessary physical exams & training, and order required post accident drug testing.

  • Track and maintain health & safety statistics and records, including safety training, pulmonary function tests, respirator fit testing, nuclear badges, etc. within assigned region.

  • Work with Safety Manager and General Counsel to facilitate investigation of safety incidents and ensure accurate record keeping and reporting, within region. Analyze incident reports to identify causal factors, prepare recommendations for corrective & preventive action, and communicate information to stakeholders.

  • Other duties as assigned to support the company's safety values.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental/Engineering Sciences, or related field.

  • 2 - 5 years relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience coordinating the safety function in an engineering or construction environment highly preferred.

  • Technical skills Preferred:

    • Must currently possess or be able to complete OSHA 30-Hour Construction Outreach and HAZWOPER 40 certification within 3 months of employment,

    • Experience delivering safety &/or environmental training,

    • Root cause analysis,

    • Strong computer skills required

  • Valid driver's license in any U.S. state and good driving record.

  • Ability to travel within assigned region approximately 75% of the time, may occasionally need to work irregular hours to inspect jobsites and perform incident investigations.

  • Relocation to the greater Columbus, Ohio area; relocation assistance may be provided.
