This position will be located at our College for Officer Training (CFOT) near Wrigley Field on the North Side of Chicago. CFOT operates as a unique educational program for The Salvation Army that trains our ordained pastors or "officers" for service in our communities. With a position on our campus, you will have the opportunity to work in a supportive and mission-driven environment that helps affect positive change for those we serve.

Job Objective:

Provide for the maintenance and upkeep of the College for Officer's Training buildings, equipment, grounds, and vehicles.

Duties:



  • Assist the Property Department in completing work orders promptly.
  • Aid in moving furniture, boxes, etc.
  • Maintain campus grounds by mowing grass, weeding gardens, removing litter and trash, handling yard clippings, trimming bushes and trees, and watering plants throughout spring, summer, and fall.
  • Keep sidewalks, stairs, parking lots, and drives clear of snow and ice buildup.
  • Perform regular and preventative maintenance of motorized equipment, including vehicles, riding mowers, and lawn equipment.
  • Perform minor repairs on malfunctioning equipment, doors, windows, lights, etc. as per instructions.
  • Maintain all buildings, equipment, grounds, and vehicles associated with the College for Officer's Training.
  • Assist in the regular servicing of HVAC, filter changes, and other equipment preventative maintenance.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance walk-throughs of campus mechanical areas.
  • Respond to emergency needs as assigned in a rotating on-call schedule.
  • Respond to weekend snow plowing as assigned in a rotating on-call schedule.
  • Perform plumbing repairs such as installing toilets, cabinets, faucets, drainpipes, water pumps, and motors.
  • Maintain all campus vehicles including transportation to oil changes and maintenance repairs, vacuuming, and washing.
  • Perform power rodding of sewers.
  • Install and repair appliances as needed.
  • Perform drywall hanging, sanding, patching, and painting.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work environment.
  • Clean after service companies have completed the project.
  • Maintain compactor and compactor rooms clear.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.

Education & Experience:

High School Diploma or equivalent.

The position requires 1-3 years of experience in facility maintenance

OR: Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Skills:



  • Ability to speak, write, and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership.
  • Ability to obtain an Illinois Class B license.
  • This position requires a clear background check.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently with great attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.


Supervisory Responsibility:

None.

Physical Requirements:

Physical requirements include; good speaking, hearing and vision ability, and excellent manual dexterity.

Regularly Lifting, pulling, and pushing of materials up to 80 pounds

Requires bending, squatting, and walking

May stand for extended periods

Work on ladders

Travel:

Travel locally with a CFOT vehicle in the performance of job duties.
