  • Job Summary

    Under minimum supervision, perform a variety of tasks assisting Journeyman Mechanics and/or Lead persons aiding in a variety of tasks including maintaining and repairing several different HVAC and plumbing machinery and equipment with a career path directed toward HVAC Mechanic.

    Essential Job Duties



    • Responsible for following all safety procedures and maintaining a safe and secure work environment.
    • Assist in repairs including routine maintenance on HVAC machinery and equipment.
    • Assisting with the installation of HVAC systems on commercial and residential properties.
    • Coordinating with team members to provide excellent customer service
    • Assist in HVAC repairs and maintenance.
    • Assist in a variety of construction duties on rehabilitation projects including clean-up.
    • This position may require driving a campus vehicle.
    • Will load and unload equipment, tools, and materials at job sites.
    • Ensuring all tools, materials, and equipment are in good working order
    • Perform other duties as assigned.


    Basic Qualifications

    Education and Experience:



    • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent with at least six (6) months or more of experience in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC).
    • Knowledge of tools and equipment necessary for HVAC installation and maintenance.
    • Communicate professionally with the members of the Caltech community in all situations. Must maintain effective working relationships with others.
    • Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments.
    • Ability to work various shifts as well as overtime and weekends.
    • Must possess a valid driver's license and be able drive Institute vehicles.
    • Must be eligible and be able to adhere to the Institute's Motor Vehicle policy
    • Strong oral and written communication skills are required. Must be able to use correct punctuation, vocabulary, spelling, and sentence structure.
    • Must be able to follow written instructions.
    • Requires a background investigation and physical examination.


    Physical Requirements



    • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds on a daily basis, bend in all directions, kneel, climb stairs, squeeze and turn equipment, properly operate machinery, and work outdoors in all weather conditions.


    Preferred Qualifications



    • 2 years or more of HVAC experience is a plus.
    • 1 year or more of work experience in a university setting is a plus.
    • Proficiency with automated work order system and timekeeping application is a plus.
    • EPA Certification Type Universal

Hiring Range

$25.50 - $31.50 Per Hour

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
