Maintenance Technician

The Salvation Army Midland Division Corps located in Springfield, Missouri, is looking for a Maintenance Technician. This individual will Supervision of any and all volunteers assigned to the maintenance department and ensuring all preventative and regular maintenance is performed on all properties as well as on any and all equipment at each.

This is a full-time position 40 hours per week with starting pay of $16.00 per hour.

Essential Functions



  1. Inspect facilities/grounds regularly and take appropriate action.



  1. Maintain facility grounds to include yard work, trash removal, snow removal, lawn mowing and any additional outside repairs as necessary.
  2. Maintain equipment, appliances, furniture and facilities: to include but not limited to plumbing, electrical, drywall, plaster, painting, basic HVAC upkeep, minor remodeling and flooring.
  3. Daily monitor and assess property and equipment to ensure safety, preventative maintenance and proper attention is given to outstanding items.



  1. Meet regularly with supervisor to discuss maintenance issues and notify supervisor of need to escalate any maintenance issues.



  1. Prioritize and perform the duties included on task list provided by Corps Officer or designee.
  2. Maintain current maintenance logs and ensure facility is prepared for inspections.
  3. Propose improvements in the way tasks are accomplished.
  4. Perform and/or supervise the performance of maintenance as assigned.



  1. Ensure routine maintenance on maintenance and fleet vehicles is conducted.



  • Set up quarterly servicing schedule on vehicles for oil change, brake service and/or engine check.
  • Ensure vehicles are kept up to date, including license plates, insurance cards etc.



  1. Operate and maintain all equipment at the corps and the quarters.



  • Set up and take down tables and chairs for program events.
  • Fill out purchase order for needed supplies and submit to office.
  • Guide personnel to problem areas for repair.
  • Assist with snow removal and ensure walkways are cleared and treated in the event of snow or ice.



  1. Make pickups and deliveries driving a box truck as necessary or assign to staff as needed.
  2. Assist with Christmas and other seasonal activities as directed.
  3. Maintain building security systems to include testing and repairs.
  4. Move/pickup furniture, equipment, tools, and supplies or assign to staff as needed.
  5. Ensure OSHA standards and required state, local and licensing standards are practiced.
  6. Respond to emergencies as necessary.
  7. Maintain confidentiality and comply with Safe From Harm guidelines.
  8. Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relationships with co-workers, supervisor(s), volunteers, and corps visitors. This would include but not be limited to such actions as: resolution of conflicts in a professional manner; courteous treatment to others; respect of others property and person; and professional and appropriate communication to and about co-workers, supervisors, volunteers, and corps visitors.



Minimum Qualifications



  • Position requires basic communication skills with visitors, clients and staff.
  • Ability to read and comprehend job description, cleaning instructions and material safety detail, have good follow-through skills, and work with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and prioritize many different projects and workload.
  • Must be energetic, proactive, have a positive attitude, and be willing to work with others.
  • Must be trainable and willing to respond to the needs of the organization.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Requires valid driver's license. CDL preferred.


Education/Experience

High School diploma and one-year related work experience. Will consider a combination of education and experience. HVAC knowledge/experience a plus.

Physical and Working Conditions

Capable of frequently lifting 30 pounds, occasionally lifting up to 100 pounds and frequently moves 100 pounds or more using dolly/cart/truck. Occasionally climb a ladder to work (replace light bulbs, etc.). Some of this work will be outdoors and will be cold in the winter and hot in the summer.
