JOB SUMMARY

The Attending Physician VI (Pediatric-Hematology Oncology) provides clinical care and management of pediatric patients across Cook County Health (CCH) settings and other sites as assigned. Responsibilities include supervising residents, medical students, and fellows as needed. The Attending Physician must adhere to all federal, local, and departmental rules and regulations supporting Cook County Health (CCH).

Typical Duties



  • * Participates in clinical care, research, and teaching for the Pediatric Hematology Oncology.
  • * Provides direct clinical care for pediatric patients including young adults with Hematology Oncology conditions including performing other clinical patient care for pediatric patients.
  • * Provide consults for patients with hematology oncology conditions seen in the inpatient and outpatient pediatric settings.
  • * Collaborates with administrative and nursing staff.
  • * Participates in clinical research and provides mentoring of residents and students in research methods.
  • * Provides Pediatric Hematology Oncology education to pediatric and family medicine residents and/or fellows in accordance with the program requirements of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
  • * Facilitates medical education training in Pediatric Hematology Oncology for medical students and physician assistant students.
  • * Promotes quality, compliance and patient safety initiatives focusing on evidence-based solutions to minimize risk; works to implement patient safety goals and quality measures.
  • * Actively participates in regularly scheduled department, hospital, and medical staff meetings.
  • * Actively participates in goals and activities of the Section of Pediatric Hematology Oncology including administration, productivity, quality, education, and clinical research.
  • * Performs other duties as assigned by the Chair of the Department of Pediatrics.

Minimum Qualifications



  • * Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy Medicine (DO) from an accredited college or university or foreign equivalent
  • * Licensed as a Physician and Surgeon in the State of Illinois or the ability to obtain prior to starting employment
  • * Illinois controlled substance license or the ability to obtain prior to starting employment
  • * Current and valid licensure with the Federal DEA or have the ability to obtain license prior to starting employment
  • * Board Certified in Pediatrics
  • * Board Certified in Hematology/Oncology or Board Eligible in Hematology/Oncology or must obtain Board Certification within four (4) years of starting this employment

  • * Experience as Pediatric Hematology/Oncology attending physician

  • * Ability to work and make sound judgments in a stressful and fast paced environment.

  • Ability to train by presenting concepts and demonstrating tasks

  • * Must be able to travel to work sites throughout Cook County


Physical and Environmental Demands

This position is functioning within a healthcare environment. The incumbent is responsible for adherence to all hospital and department specific safety requirements. This includes but is not limited to the following policies and procedures: complying with Personal Protective Equipment requirements, hand washing and sanitizing practices, complying with department specific engineering and work practice controls and any other work area safety precautions as specified by hospital wide policy and departmental procedures.
