Reporting to the Director of Leadership Giving, a successful candidate for the position of, Assistant Director, Leadership Giving will have a track record identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding leadership level gifts ($1,500-$99,999). This position will represent and promote the mission and community of Brigham and Women's Hospital, with a primary focus on partnering with Major Gift colleagues focused on an area of care. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Portfolio Management:

Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward new and repeat donors for both restricted and unrestricted support for various departments in compliance with patient confidentiality requirements. (HIPAA)

Solicitation:



  • Serve as a true partner to current donors to assist them in achieving their philanthropic goals here at BWH.
  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 200 prospects capable of making gifts at the $1,500-$99,999.
  • Responsible for renewing and upgrading donors and building a pipeline for major and planned giving prospects.


Cultivation and Stewardship:



  • Keep current donors informed and connected to the areas of BWH that they are most passionate about and keep them up to date on BWH breakthroughs and news.
  • Develop relationships between physicians and patients to improve affinity for their doctor and BWH.
  • Facilitate attendance and awareness of cultivation events such as tours, luncheons, and any special recognition events. (These events will be coordinated through the Special Events and Donor Relations teams.)
  • Identify and cultivate future volunteer leadership and building a cadre of leaders who are capable of and willing to give to and advocate on behalf of their area and the hospital.


Goals and Metrics:



  • Specific measurement targets will be developed and agreed upon with the Director, Leadership Giving on an annual basis and will include monthly donor visit goals, as well cultivation and stewardship metrics.


Other duties as assigned:



  • Partner with faculty and physicians to educate and guide their involvement in the donor engagement process.
  • Working with the Leadership Giving team and Major Gift team pilot a beat-specific fundraising program to support donor engagement and giving within targeted areas.
  • Work successfully in a highly entrepreneurial, results-oriented, fast paced environment to secure philanthropic resources to champion the mission of Brigham and Women's Hospital.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Bachelor's degree required and 4-6 years of relevant front-line development experience, preferably in a non-profit.
  • 1.5+ years' experience in portfolio management.
  • Experience with medical fundraising in a hospital or an academic institute is preferred, but not required.
  • Must possess advanced knowledge/skills of Microsoft Office suite of products. Raisers Edge or similar development CRM experience preferred, but not required.


SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:



  • Appreciation for and an ability to articulate the mission of BWH.
  • The intellectual depth and experience to garner the trust and confidence of Hospital leadership, faculty, physicians, and administrators, as well as volunteers and grateful patients.
  • Experience recruiting, training, and leading philanthropic volunteers, academic, clinical, and administrative partners to cultivate and steward an intricate donor base.
  • Demonstrated success in personally cultivating, soliciting, closing, and stewarding leadership gifts. Proven track record to bring creativity and effective strategies to engage in proper moves management for a leadership gift pipeline.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work autonomously under pressure of multiple and sequential target dates.
  • Openness to limited travel, most patients/prospects/donors reside in the New England region.
  • Excellent interpersonal and a consistent record of success in a position requiring independent planning and efficient utilization of time and resources.
  • Professionalism and tact are a must, as you will learn highly confidential information in this role.
  • Experience navigating a sophisticated organization is desired.
