We are seeking a DNCG System Engineer

This job is located on-site at the Washington Navy Yard, DC.

This position is in the Aircraft Carrier Design and Systems Engineering Directorate (SEA 05V) at Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA). This position will be at the Washington Navy Yard. The incumbent serves as a Systems Engineer directly supporting the Ford (CVN78) new construction and in-service Class Aircraft Carrier Ship Design Managers (SDMs) and Digital, Network, and Cyber Group System Engineering Manager (SEM), in the following technical areas: Machinery Control System, Steering Gear Control System, Voice, Video, Navigation, Integrated Bridge System and other shipboard control systems and networks, Field device support. Support NAVSEA 05V Carrier Engineering Team This position may expand to include cyber security for these systems in the future. This engineer will be supporting both in-service and new construction Carriers. Occasional travel may be expected in this position.

Duties and Responsibilities

* Provide technical support and assess risk for technical decisions for Ford Class Ship Design Managers (SDMs) and System Engineering Manager (SEM)

* Provide written responses to requests for technical assistance or adjudication received via letter, Departure from Specification (DFS), and Nuclear Liaison Action Request (NLAR)

* Address technical issues with ship modernization efforts executed via Ship Change Documents (SCDs) and support development of new SCDs

* Coordinate with Engineering Agents, Technical Authorities, TYCOM, PMS 312, PMS 378, SUPSHIP, Newport News Shipbuilding, & other activities

* Review technical data packages, drawings, reports, logistics products, training, etc. and provide written technical recommendations

* Review ship, procurement, and systems specifications and submit written proposals for changes

* Work with multi-disciplinary teams and build consensus with numerous stakeholders.

* Coordinate with a team of 4 to 6 engineers on multiple projects. This includes technical feedback and guidance, task tracking, and team communications.

Qualifications

(Requirement) Engineering Bachelor's degree and 3 years' experience. with machinery control systems

* (Desire) Experience with Navy, Coast Guard, or Merchant Marine

* (Desire) Engineer with degree in Electrical, Computer, or Systems engineering from an accredited university

* (Desire) Working with or at a shipyard, Naval Surface/Undersea Warfare Center (NSWC/NUWC), Supervisor of Shipbuilding Command (SUPSHIP), Regional Maintenance Center (RMC), and/or Type Commander (TYCOM) supporting construction, operation, maintenance, modernization, and/or repair of shipboard auxiliary systems. Experience working with technical authority (e.g. NAVSEA 05 and 08). Experience working with program managers (e.g. PEO Carriers, PMS 312, PMS 378, etc.) in an engineering role

* (Desire) Experience with shipboard networks and systems

* (Desire) Preferably experience with aircraft carriers

(Requirement) Good technical writing and communication skills

* (Desire) Strong writing and communication skills

(Requirement) Secret Security Clearance and U.S. Citizenship

One must be highly motivated, independent, and self-starting engineer and have good interpersonal, problem-solving, analytical, mathematical, and organizational skills. Ability to follow directions is a must.
