Part-time Clinical Exercise Physiologist

MedStar Health is looking for a Clinical Exercise Physiologist to join our team at MedStar St. Mary's Hospital!

As a Clinical Exercise Physiologist, you will be responsible for assessing and treating clients for pulmonary/cardiac rehabilitation, including bio/psycho/socio/spiritual needs including but not limited to exercise, education, and counseling within their scope of practice and according to departmental policies and procedures. The Clinical Exercise Specialist develops complex exercise prescriptions and assesses the effectiveness and responses to interventions and documents according to established standards. The Clinical Exercise Physiologist must quickly and effectively respond to medical emergencies in a clinic and assist with scheduling, clinic clerical tasks, and quality improvement activities.

Primary Duties:

  • Assesses the physical, psychosocial, spiritual & cultural dimensions of the patient as well as educational needs and appropriate documents. Facilitates patient/family, physician and staff safety and satisfaction, collaborating with the Operational Specialist for Rehabilitation and the clinical leader.

  • Prioritizes plan of care to include patient education and to utilize time effectively and efficiently. Provides responsible exercise specialist care in compliance with hospital policies and procedures, scopes of practice and legal/ethical standards.

  • Communicates effectively with other health care providers. Evaluates patients' progress and documents per departmental protocols and AACVPR, ACSM and AHH Standards.

  • Handles stressful situations with tact and poise. Employs principles of therapeutic communication, interviewing techniques, problem solving and crisis intervention when performing patient care.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in exercise science, exercise physiology, or kinesiology.

  • ACSM-RCEP - Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist ACSM Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist or equivalent within 1 Year

  • CPR (Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation) within 90 days.

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) Certification within 90 Days.

  • Pulmonary/cardiac rehabilitation experience preferred.
