Daikin Applied is seeking a Model Based Controls Principal Engineer who will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and implementing controls systems for Daikin's cutting-edge HVAC Equipment. With limited supervision, you will collaborate with project teams, design detailed controls systems, program control sequences and ensure systems operate efficiently and effectively to meet the environmental needs of various customers. You will also be the technical leader and architect for Daikin's controls solutions and provide strong expertise in one or more specific technical areas and a depth of knowledge in HVAC technologies.

Location: Hybrid, Staunton, VA or Plymouth, MN

What you will do:



  • Architect Controls solutions for Daikin products
  • Apply and demonstrate advanced technical skills related to HVAC controls development.
  • Provide technical leadership in cross-functional product development initiatives
  • Support project management as technical lead engineer.
  • Drive controls architecture decisions and develop new innovative designs to improve the competitive position of the company.
  • Supports the planning and development of technology roadmaps.
  • Provides expert level technical oversight of product development projects.
  • Serve as primary authority in reviewing and interpreting industry standards for controls products.
  • Drive process improvement, lean engineering, and continuous improvement initiatives related to controls development
  • Mentor, guide, and lead controls development teams as needed.
  • Analyzes, evaluates, and recommends cost improvement ideas through product, vendor, and design changes.

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree (Technical, Scientific, Engineering)
  • 10+ years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to lead development teams and drive technical initiatives.
  • Proven track record of driving innovation and improvements in controls development processes.
  • Experience in managing relationships with various stakeholders including business units, clients, and product managers.
  • Thorough Understanding of HVAC equipment, components, and industry standards
  • Proficient with fundamentals of instrumentation, including RTDs, thermocouples, pressure transducers, flow meters, electrical and power measurements, and analog/digital data acquisition.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to multitask & reprioritize tasks frequently
  • Ability to effectively coordinate and communicate with vendors to perform work and services relating to mechanical/electrical facility systems
  • Must be able to work cooperatively and effectively with laboratory, design, and product marketing teams
  • Programming experience desired
  • Work visa sponsorship is not available for this position


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Bachelor or Master of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution, preferably in Electrical, Mechanical, Control Systems, or related field
