We are looking for a hands-on talentedEmbedded Software Engineering Managerto join the Nordson EFD team. In this role you will be responsible for leading a team of firmware engineers with core competency in designing, developing, troubleshooting, and debugging firmware and software programs on mechatronic systems for precision fluid dispensing used in advanced manufacturing processes and medical fluid handling. You and your team will work on complex hardware-software interaction problems that require strong analytical and data driven approaches to make our products smarter, connected, and intelligent.

How YOU will make an impact:

  • Lead and develop a team that will own firmware architecture design, development, and validation to control electro-mechanical actuators, acquire sensor data, implement control algorithms, and enable digital communications on our products taking it from concept to production launch.
  • Hire, mentor, and provide guidance to the team that cultivates a collaborative and inclusive environment to achieve technical excellence and maintain a customer centric focus.
  • Continuously improve our software quality and documentation process, conduct code reviews, review code testing/product validation plans and results.
  • Work with external vendors and partners to augment internal capabilities.
  • Contribute to our product/technology roadmap development, annual ops planning and strategic planning.
  • Manage regular interactions with peers and management within engineering, operations, technical sales and product line management.
  • Provide direction and decision-making support as needed to sustain current products during quality escalations or supply chain disruptions.

Qualifications To Be Successful:

  • 10 years' experience in mechatronic product development, with a minimum of 3 years managing a team of more than five engineers.
  • Strong embedded SW fundamentals, including a deep understanding of design and development flows, real-time constraints, concurrency, multi-processor systems, controls theory, caching, and virtual memory.
  • Proficient in C/C++ programming of microcontrollers/microprocessors and FPGA's. Knowledge of low -level hardware interfaces, register and interrupt programming, bare-metal software development, clock and power management, real time operating systems and communications protocols such as UART (RS232, RS485), SPI, TCP/IP, MODBUS, Profinet, Ethernet IP etc.
  • Track record of having deployed Agile / Scrum / XP development best practices : Expertise in implementing configuration and release management, continuous integration, coding conventions, refactoring code, static code analysis and unit/regression testing.
  • Background in robotics, machine automation and machine learning algorithms a plus.
  • Led a team that contributes to a multidisciplinary fast paced product development environment.
  • Have creatively and collaboratively solved problems with experience in root cause investigation.
  • Strong communications skills, high levels of agility and a strong sense of ownership.
  • Bachelors in Engineering, Physics or Math. Graduate degree in Computer engineering, Electrical engineering, or Computer science preferred.
