Job Summary

Avient is seeking a Law Clerk for summer 2024. The Law Clerk will support the Corporate Legal Department. The ideal candidate will be local to the Cleveland area and able to work full time during the summer months (May-August) This role provides an opportunity to gain exposure to many aspects of our business, provides first-hand knowledge of how an in-house legal department operates, and allows you to put into practice the legal research, writing and analytical skills you've learned. The Law Clerk can also participate in a company-wide summer intern program that promotes professional development, networking, and community involvement.

Essential Functions

* Assist all members of the Corporate Legal Department with projects in a wide variety of areas, for example, contract review and revision, negotiation support, and special projects

* Work on legal projects in areas to include due diligence, mergers and acquisitions support, corporate governance, employment and labor relations, intellectual property, commercial and antitrust

* Analyze and summarize detailed legal documents to include contracts; recommend strategy where applicable

* Research and analyze the law on complex issues and write memos as necessary/requested

* Other projects as assigned.

Education and Experience

In addition to the Avient Competencies required for all jobs, the following qualifications are required for this job:

* Education and Experience

* Bachelor's degree required

* Currently pursuing a law degree (1L and 2L)

* Minimum 3.0 GPA required, 3.5 highly preferred

* Previous work experience a plus, but not required

* Ability to work independently with strong time management and organizational skills

* Analytical skills with strong attention to detail

* Effective research and writing skills

* Strong team orientation and the ability to work within a collaborative environment

* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

* Desire to learn and develop within the legal field

* Requires excellent computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
