Assembles, portions, labels, restocks foods for cafeteria services. Provides appropriate and hospitable service to customers. Maintains sanitation of cafeteria. Performs warewashing duties. Assists in training of other food service workers.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Prepares area for food serving. Sets up steam tables and service areas with hot food items, salads, desserts, fruits, breakfast foods, etc. Prepares and portions salads and desserts. Slices meats and prepares deli items i.e., sandwiches, mixed salads, cheese, etc. Replenishes food items as necessary. Makes coffee. Participates in cafeteria special events.
  • Serves food in prescribed quantities according to food service standards.
  • Takes temperatures before and during meal service.
  • Informs production if a menu item is running low.
  • Stocks cold supply before, during and after each meal service.
  • Performs necessary cleanup duties after meals. Breaks down lines and puts food away in accordance with approved safe food handling methods. Obtains needed supplies from main kitchen and stores. Cleans all working areas and equipment according to departmental standards and health and safety regulations. Maintains general cleanliness and order of cafeteria. Washes and stores all serviceware.
  • Uses cash register to record payments received for food items purchased. Calculates total charge for each purchase and makes change as appropriate. Handles charge slips. Exercises care in handling money to avoid errors. Closes out register, reconciles all transactions and

  • Equivalent to completion of two years high school.

Experience/Skills:

  • Requires the ability to carry out instructions and procedures that are standardized.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English.
  • Understands basic weights and measures.
  • Understands basic mathematical functions.
