Job Summary
The School of Education at Elmhurst University invites applications for Spanish bilingual supervisors for the special education, early childhood and elementary education programs with experience in ages Birth through 6th grade. Each semester, bilingual supervisors have 2-4 teacher candidates to observe in the field and evaluate during the day and who are placed in a Spanish bilingual setting. Supervisors are the liaisons between Elmhurst University and school personnel and work in collaboration with mentor teachers and teacher candidates. Teacher candidates are placed in schools around 25 miles from the Elmhurst University campus. The School of Education provides an orientation to support supervisors in the field.

Supervisors are paid a stipend each semester.Supervisors need transportation and are reimbursed for mileage between their home and the candidates' school sites.
Essential Functions

  • Conferences with the mentor teacher about expectations for the semester.
  • Acts as a confidante for both the mentor teacher and the candidate.
  • Advocates for the candidate.
  • Facilitates clear communication and positive interactions between the teacher and the candidate.
  • Assists the mentor/candidate team in developing clear, realistic goals.
  • Handles any difficult or sensitive situations that might arise and contacts the program director immediately with any concerns or questions.
  • Conferences at the site visit with the mentor teacher and the candidate regarding the candidate's strengths, needs, and areas of concern; plans for remediation, if necessary.
  • Shares candid reflections on the candidate's classroom performance and development.
  • Apprises the mentor teacher of the procedures for completing the teacher candidate's final evaluation and contributes thoughts to the mentor teacher regarding this evaluation.
  • Provides guidance during the practicum and makes additional visits, if necessary.
  • Submits observation forms for each candidate to be completed throughout the semester.


Other Duties and Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications

  • Professional Educator License and a Bilingual endorsement in Spanish (retired or inactive is good).
  • At least 3+ plus years of experience teaching at the Birth - 6 grade level with demonstrated success in the development of Spanish bilingual curriculum and instruction.
  • Strong proficiency of Spanish.
  • Ability to work positively with students and other educators.
  • Ability to work with racially, culturally and economically diverse students.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
Employee is subject to indoor work, protected from weather conditions. Work is sedentary in nature and involves exerting up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently/constantly in order to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
