You may have also acquired the following skills:



  • Training and experience in nuclear power plant systems, emphasizing primary and secondary system thermodynamics and heat transfer
  • Knowledge and experience with balance of plant, heat exchanger components
  • US Navy Nuclear Power Program
  • Strong analytical skills and fluency in the use of the Microsoft Suite of applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) and other engineering software
  • Able to obtain unescorted commercial nuclear and Department of Energy facility site access, which means a clear criminal history, passing controlled substance drug/alcohol testing, and a US citizen
  • Good communication skills including the ability to comprehend and convey detailed technical data
  • Good problem identification and problem resolution skills; Ability to develop and maintain good interpersonal relationships
  • Engineering organizations may have additional qualification requirements with established criterion to demonstrate success including such items as training courses and/or qualification cards
  • Prior heat exchanger and leadership experience will accelerate the candidate's transition to a site crew lead

As a Heat Exchanger Engineer in Lynchburg, VA, you will be part of the proven team in the Installed Base Business Unit. Your work will include:



  • Modify existing and develop new repair products for power plant heat exchangers.
  • Performing repair qualifications for utility conditions and material and lead maintenance crews on-site to implement repair contract scopes during nuclear plant outages.
  • Work as part of the site crews that deploy on outages and perform technician work to gain experience in the Balance of Plant (BOP) heat exchanger field.
  • Perform a variety of complex engineering assignments typically in areas of design, development, analysis, evaluation, testing, preparation of specifications, execution of field tasks and resolution of field opportunities.
  • Independently evaluate, select and apply a variety of technical techniques, procedures, and criteria using judgement in making more complex adaptations and modifications for tasks not previously performed.
  • Develop new or adapted existing services/products, methods, systems or models to provide added value solutions to customers.
  • Ensures compliance with government regulations, organization, industry and customer engineering standards.
  • Travel to site as a technical or overall project lead for heat exchanger work, whether a tube repair or maintenance job. Interact with site engineering, project managers, and outage control center, as needed, while on-site to resolve issues as they arise.
  • Prepare qualification documentation (technical requirements documents, test plans, calculations) and perform qualification testing as needed for new heat exchanger repair products (sleeves, tube expansion, retubing, etc.).
  • Prepare final reports for repairs performed on-site after returning to the office.
  • Interact with customer counterparts either at conferences, at power plants, or during conference calls to determine their issues and advise them on Framatome's solutions.
  • Prepare presentation and marketing materials for heat exchanger conferences and customer presentations. Work with the sales group to prepare proposals. This will involve scheduling, cost estimates, and proposal technical wording.

Framatome's Installed Base (IB) Business Unit is responsible for all types of services and maintenance activities for commercial nuclear operating plants. The IB NDE Solutions Business Group (IBN-A) manages specialty NDE inspections, steam generator services, chemistry & chemical application services, and Balance of Plant (BOP) repair services and sales activity for primarily the US nuclear market.

Your Total Rewards Package

The range of base salary for the position is between $95,000 - $129,000, and may also include annual incentives, performance bonuses and benefits. Please note that the base salary range is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies and work location.
