Keysight Technologies, the world's premier measurement company, has an opening for an R&D Semiconductor Device Engineer. This position is within the High Frequency Technology Center at our headquarters in Santa Rosa, California. Live in beautiful Sonoma County amongst vineyards, redwood forests, rivers, lakes and coastline while working on state-of-the-art ICs and devices.

HFTC is part of Keysight Labs, the core R&D organization that enables Keysight's Centers of Excellence, Industry Solutions Teams and Technology Manufacturing Centers to provide RF, microwave, mmWave, 5G and 6G Test and Measurement solutions to customers in the communications, aerospace & defense, automotive & energy, general electronics, manufacturing, and semiconductor industries.

The focus of the Device Engineer position is the development and sustaining of cutting-edge micro- and nano-fabrication technologies for high-performance microwave and millimeter-wave applications. These technologies include InP and GaAs-based HBT, HEMT, and other electronic components which define the key competitive performance that enables industry-leading RF, microwave and high-bit rate instruments.

Responsibilities

Project objectives will encompass performance, reliability and manufacturing goals. The Device Engineer will also be responsible for assuring successful transfer and maintenance of new technologies in manufacturing. The work contributes meaningfully to the manufacture of the compound semiconductor IC's driving Keysight's multi-billion-dollar electronic test and measurement business. This is a hands-on engineering role bridging technology and process engineering.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Define, implement, and improve semiconductor device processes for microwave and mmWave applications
  • Partner with process and product engineers, technicians, and customers across functions to meet project deliverables
  • Define material, process, and device performance targets
  • Develop and characterize new devices, components, and vehicle circuits

Qualifications

This position requires access to certain goods, software, technology, or technical data subject to U.S. export control laws and regulations. Under these laws and regulations, U.S. persons (which includes U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, lawful permanent residents, refugees, and asylees) working for Keysight can access export-controlled items without authorization from the U.S. government. For any individual who is not a U.S. person, Keysight may need authorization from the U.S. Department of State, U.S. Department of Commerce, or other appropriate federal agency before the individual can access export-controlled items. Employment in this position for non-U.S. persons is contingent on Keysight's ability to obtain any required government authorizations.

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of proven experience with advanced semiconductor processes and devices is required
  • Specific skills in III-V device physics and processing are highly desirable
  • Knowledge of transistors (HBT, HEMT) is desired
  • Experience with statistical process control (SPC) and design of experiments (DOE) is desired
  • Candidates must have strong problem-solving and analytical skills as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills for successful inter and intra-group interactions.
  • Strong accountability, self-initiative and proactive attitude are required
