The Youth Outreach and Engagement Specialist will focus on recruitment and outreach to identify and secure eligible participates to participate in the WIOA Youth Program with the primary focus on out of school youth ages 16-24. This position assists program participants in developing vocational goals reflective of their skills, capabilities, and interests. The Outreach and Engagement Specialist will assist with participants' progress towards achieving goals by following-up with participants and removing barriers to success.

Job Description

* Identify, recruit, and secure eligible youth for the WIOA Youth services and activities

* Meet with participants to identify barriers to employment and enroll them in the WIOA Youth Program

* Identify and develop community resources and natural support systems for program participants and families

* Develop a Youth Committee to design a youth plan that will help achieve the contracted performance measures

* Initiate, organize, and/or participate in community events and educational opportunities to promote the WIOA Youth

* Program, serving as a liaison and "go to person" for youth service information.

* Make referrals, assist with service linkage, and educate youth and community agencies on how to access and use community resources and services.

* Follow-up on all referrals and track progress.

* Serve as conduit to help transition participants to other programs and services offered by workforce.

* Maintain contact with participant and employers for work experience activities.

* Conducts orientations for outreach purposes.

* May assist with guidance for vocational training activities, support service's needs.

* Attend scheduled supervision meetings to discuss participants' progress.

* Create Partnerships with Community Agencies that serve opportunity youth.

* Plan Young Adult special programs/career expo and hiring events.

* Identifyresources to assist with housing, utilities, clothing, domestic violence, counseling, substance abuse, legal aid, backgrounds and family crisis.

* Conduct possible worksite outreach visits for participants in paid Work Experience.

* Conduct follow up after program exit to provide job retention support which may include but not limited to job.

* Engage in community outreach and education exploration.

Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in Education, Communications, Public Relations, or related fields, preferred; or a satisfactory equivalent of education and experience.

* Experience in social media applications.

* Three years of experience working in the area of recruitment, sales, or community development.

* Experience working with youth.

* Excellent interpersonal skills.

* Experience in working in a culturally diverse community setting.

* Strong communication skills.

* Able to work with and relate to participants and be culturally sensitive.

* Strong organizational skills.

* Must be computer literate and possess MS Word and Excel skills and the ability to learn specialized databases and software systems.

* Valid driver's license with a good driving record and insurance required.

* Bilingual skills a plus.

Work Requirements: Extensive standing, sitting, computer, phone, and deskwork required; some kneeling and lifting of up to 10 pounds required; work primarily in a defined office environment with specified hours, although flexible hours including overtime may be required; interacts one on one and in groups with individuals from a diverse range of backgrounds.

* Travel required up to 75% within Dallas County
