Staff Applications Engineer

Staff Applications Engineer - Wireless SoCs

Skyworks Artificial Intelligence Systems (AIS) group is seeking to fill an immediate need for a Staff Applications Engineer in the Wireless Products Group. This is a full-time, permanent position located in Hillsboro Oregon only. Qualified candidates will demonstrate a working knowledge of wireless communications concepts, strong electronics or embedded-systems background and possess a minimum of 7-8 years of direct experience supporting System on Chip (SOC) products and / or wireless communications systems at the end-product level.

The successful candidate will immediately apply their technical, communication and organizational skills supporting the company's highly integrated radio SoCs with customers in a variety of consumer end-markets. Primary roles and responsibilities are:

- Lead the design-in efforts with customers, including on-site demonstration and training.

- Work with both hardware engineers and embedded systems engineers to customize the company's highly configurable products for specific customer needs.

- Lead an effort, along with marketing and product line management to standardize Hardware, Firmware and Technical Documentation to broaden the company's reach into untapped end-markets.

- Manage the development of reference design solutions, utilizing a talent base across multiple disciplines including Hardware and Firmware Engineers as well as Sales and Marketing.

- Through interaction with customers, continually identify opportunities, at a technical level, for IP development.

Minimum requirements:

- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering

- Experience / knowledge of digital wireless systems and hardware.

- Demonstrable experience designing, testing, supporting SoCs or wireless end-products.

- First rate communication skills, both verbal and written

- Willingness to engage directly with customers on both a technical and marketing support level.

Desirable Attributes:

- Digital Audio hardware and software knowledge / experience

- Experience with systems based on Bluetooth.

- Experience with various communication protocols (e.g., USB, SPI, I2C, UART).

About the Position:

From within the Systems and Applications group, the Principal Applications Engineer works directly with Chip Design and Product Management teams to craft custom solutions involving both Hardware and Firmware. The position requires equal measures of initiative, organization and technical prowess. The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is currently USD$112,500 -$215,900 per year. Starting base pay will depend on relevant experience and skills, training and education, business needs, market demands, the ultimate job duties and requirements, and work location. Skyworks has different base pay ranges for different work locations in the U.S. Benefits include access to healthcare benefits (including a premium-free medical plan option), a 401(k) plan and company match, an employee stock purchase plan, paid time off (including vacation, sick/wellness, parental leave), among others. Employees are eligible to participate in an incentive plan, and certain roles are also eligible for additional awards, including recognition and stock.
