The Rutgers University Department of Earth & Planetary Sciences invites applications for a full-time, grant-funded one-year renewable Non-Tenure Track Assistant Research Professor (academic year) with interests in and experience with the use of field, laboratory and statistical approaches to reconstruct Holocene sea level changes. Starting December 1, 2022, the candidate will join the Rutgers University Earth System Science & Policy lab, led by Professor Robert Kopp.

Minimum Education and Experience
Applicant must hold a PhD in geology, oceanography, or a related discipline.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience with paleo sea level reconstruction, including field, laboratory and statistical analysis.
  • Familiarity with and contributions to the paleo sea-level literature
  • Excellent communication skills, as well as organizational and editing skills
  • Comprehensive analytical skills and experience in writing manuscripts and research grant proposals.

Equipment Utilized
High-performance computing, geological coring equipment
Physical Demands and Work Environment
* Travel throughout US and occasionally to other countries to conduct/participate in field research and
conferences/meetings/trainings.
* Design/conduct/participate in virtual conferences/meetings/trainings as needed.
Overview
Principal responsibilities include (1) reconstructing past global and regional changes in sea level and the drivers of sea level change, (2) writing papers and making presentations describing this research, and (3) identifying and supporting the development of new research and evaluation of projects and external funding opportunities, including writing grant proposals. In addition, the candidate will have opportunities to contribute to teaching and mentoring within the undergraduate and graduate programs in Earth and Planetary Sciences.
