Dr. Shishir Chundawat at the Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering (Rutgers University, New Brunswick) is seeking applications from qualified individuals for the position of Postdoctoral Fellow (PDF) to begin working in his group starting Fall/Spring 2020 (or till the position is filled). The candidate should have a Ph.D. with expertise in one or more of the following areas: synthetic biology, molecular/plant biology, protein biophysics, structural biology, protein engineering, carbohydrate-active enzymes, chemistry, and/or chemical/biochemical engineering. The candidate is expected to have at least 5 years of relevant research experience working in the relevant area/s with a strong publication record. The PDF will be expected to conduct independent research on engineering, expression and characterization of plant cell polysaccharide synthase relevant enzymes/proteins for a DOE-sponsored bioenergy crops multimodal imaging project (see link for details; http://cbe.rutgers.edu/news/prof-chundawats-rutgers-led-research-team-selected-doe-award-study-bioenergy-crops). This project will also involve close collaborations with other researchers at Rutgers University (Prof. Sanghyuk Lee, Prof. Eric Lam), Vanderbilt University (Prof. Matthew Lang), and Oak Ridge National Laboratory (Dr. Wellington Muchero and Dr. Sai Venkatesh Pingali). This is a 1-year appointment with the possibility of reappointment based on overall performance of the candidate and availability of funding. Females and minorities are strongly encouraged to apply. Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
Candidates should have suitable practical experience with protein expression using either bacterial/yeast/cell-free based systems and have extensive experience in protein biophysical characterization and enzymology. Experience in protein modeling (Rosetta) or biomolecular simulations is highly advantageous. Practical experience working with transgenic plants, plant cell cultures, super-resolution microscopy, membrane proteins expression/assays, and/or carbohydrate-active enzymes would be preferred, but not required. |

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
Position requires independent bench research, weekly reporting to Dr. Chundawat, monthly WebEx/Zoom/Teams call updates for collaborators, instruction of undergraduate and graduate students in the lab, public presentations, and aid in preparation of grants/fellowships/manuscripts. The candidate is expected to be proficient in both spoken and written English. The candidate should be a team player with a strong work ethic and comfortable working on highly interdisciplinary and time-sensitive projects. |
