RU-FIT is a one-credit course designed to aid international students in a successful transition to Rutgers University. This course aims to help students develop a foundation for a well-rounded college experience, connect students to Rutgers resources, promote engagement within and outside the classroom and communicate university expectations. RU-FIT is taught by Peer Leaders who are rising Junior and Senior students at the University and have demonstrated a commitment to first-year international student success.

Position Responsibilities

Spring 2019

*Actively participate in the recruitment of Peer Leaders for the 2019 RU-FIT course

*Attend part of the 1-Day Spring Peer Leader Training

Summer 2019

*Develop Peer Leader 1-hour weekly training modules informed by review of RU-FIT course curriculum development

Fall 2019

*Attend the 2-day Fall Peer Leader Refresher Training

*Meet assigned Peer Leaders weekly for 2 hours; the first hour will be for training purposes relative to pedagogical strategies linked to course learning outcomes and the second hour will be reserved for review of lesson plans, addressing real time concerns, grading guidance and general troubleshooting

*Communicate in writing and provide feedback in a timely manner with Peer Leaders and rest of RU-FIT team on a weekly basis

*Audit two RU-FIT classes and provide one-on-one feedback to audited Peer Leader

*Attend weekly meeting with RU-FIT team

*Work closely with the course developers/instructors of RU-FIT to ensure that the learning outcomes are being met

*Participate in norming of major assignments

*Assist in program evaluation and assessment efforts in relation to co-curriculum development

*Other duties as appropriate

Minimum Education and Experience

An RU-FIT Advisor is a University employee who has extensive experience in international student advising and/or teaching and understands the unique challenges faced by international students. The Advisor will be experienced in developing and executing pedagogical practices and strategies to address the needs of international students. Advisors serve as educators, resources, and representatives of various schools and units at Rutgers. Advisors will work very closely with their undergraduate peer leaders to create dynamic learning opportunities for their students.
