JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Established in 2018, The Center of Excellence in Industrial Biotechnology (CoEIB) works across Penn State to support innovative research projects and provide unique educational experiences for company stakeholders, undergraduate and graduate students.

We are looking for a talented and energetic person to become a part-time member of The Center's team as Workforce Development Specialist (WFDS) to advance the Center's mission of:

  • Creating a pipeline of students that understand the opportunities that are available in biotechnology and are prepared to enter this dynamic workforce; and
  • Delivering workshops for internal and external stakeholders that prepare them to have an immediate impact on the work they are doing.

In this role, you should be passionate about helping people learn and grow. Excellent communication skills are essential, not only for working with the CoEIB and its collaborating research facilities, but for creating and delivering the messaging that sets our workshops apart from other organizations delivering similar courses. In 2023, we will offer professional workshops in cell and gene therapy. This is the exciting field that creates and then offers personalized medical solutions to patients!

Working closely with the Center's Associate Director, the ultimate goals are to deliver a consistent sequence of market-relevant workshops and other educational opportunities that are well-attended. Responsibilities
  • Assess competitive offerings: topics, type (virtual vs. in-person, lecture vs. hands-on), frequency, and cost
  • Evaluate internal and external training gaps
  • Assist in the design and delivery of e-learning courses, workshops, and other training
  • Maintain a set of workshop presentations, evaluation surveys, and other tools to engage our workshop participants.
  • Create a communication plan that effectively promotes and engages stakeholders to participate in the Center's workshops, share your ideas with the CoEIB's communication specialist
  • Evaluate the success of the current educational offers, adjust as needed

What excites us about a candidate is: familiarity with a range of effective learning platforms, experience with project management, excellent writing and communication skills, and personal initiative to identify opportunities to expand or enhance the Center's workforce development impact. Strong PowerPoint, Word, and Excel skills will aid your greatly in this role.
