What your job will be like:

Jefferson Lab's Hall A/C is looking for a Staff Scientist who will assume a leading role in the construction and/or operation of multiple Hall subsystems to support an exciting and diverse physics program. Hall A is currently running the Super BigBite Spectrometer (SBS) suite of experiments, while preparing for the future MOLLER and SoLID projects. A vigorous scientific program is foreseen for Hall C using the HMS and SHMS spectrometers, as well as new equipment such as the Neutral Particle Spectrometer. The physics program of the Halls includes studies of form factors, high-resolution hypernuclear spectroscopy, generalized and transverse momentum dependent parton distribution functions of the nucleon, detailed measurements of nucleon valence quark structure at large x, and studies of fundamental properties of atomic nuclei.

In this role you will...


  • Implement, support and maintain a system in Hall A/C such as the beamline or detectors
  • Present both your own and/or collaborative research through presentations at conferences and workshops, and through publications.
  • Actively engage in the Jefferson Lab scientific program.
  • Plan, coordinate, and/or complete moderate-scale projects.
  • Interact with lab-wide professional staff and the user community todevelop a scientific research program

Qualifications We Require:

Education:


  • Ph.D. in experimental nuclear or particle physics

Experience:


  • Combined 2+ years as postdoctoral fellow and/or as a university research associate in nuclear or a related particle physics environment

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Demonstrated ability to make an independent scientific or technical contribution.
  • Strong communication skills for interacting with a large and diverse international user community.
    • Demonstrated expertise in at least one research area of current interest in nuclear physics

    Qualifications We Desire:


    • Demonstrated the ability to conceive original experiments with electromagnetic probes.
    • Experience with Micro Pattern Gaseous Detectors (MPGDs) such as Gas Electron Multipliers (GEMs)
