THIS IS FOR A FUTURE OPENING

Health & Wellness Director

Responsible for the overall supervision and operation of the health and wellness department. Also performs staff nurse functions as needed. Serve as the disability coordinator or co-disability coordinator for the center. Provide oversight for students' medical needs as prescribed by the PRH. Manage all medical subcontracted personnel. Ensure that necessary medical supplies are on hand and ordered in sufficient quantity and frequency needed in order to maintain services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • Plans and coordinates services and programs that respond to identified student needs.
  • Provides health and wellness assessments and screening, nursing interventions, emergency care, education, and referral services with health and wellness staff and medical subcontractors.
  • Orders and maintains current-dated pharmaceuticals and clinic supplies. Ensure that assigned staff perform a quarterly inventory of supplies to include expiration dates. Monitors and ensures the proper storage and condition of supplies and specimens.
  • Initiates workers' compensation documentation and maintains secondary OSHA logs. Performs follow-up surveillance of workers' compensation cases.
  • Attends monthly Safety Committee Meetings to discuss student injuries and trends.
  • Performs physical and emotional wellness assessments. Establishes individualized student health and wellness plans as well as initiates chronic illness care plans for each student according to protocol outlined in the Center's Health Standing Orders
  • Documents each encounter with students in their health records.
  • Enters SIR reports to the DOL as needed and maintains follow up updates as required.
  • Works closely with counselors, residential staff, and academy instructors to provide wellness education to students.
  • Interprets all expected outcomes, policies, and procedures outlined in the PRH and CFR pertinent to the center's health and wellness services. Ensures that appropriate center operating directives are current and implemented.
  • Performs health records and quality assurance audits.
  • Works with Food Services to provide healthy and well-balanced food options for students.
  • Ensures the reporting of all communicable diseases, child abuse cases, etc. as mandated by state and county regulations.
  • Ensures the proper storage, handling, and disposal of hazardous wastes generated by the health and wellness center.
  • Ensures that the proper protocol is followed for infection control. Ensures the proper handling of specimens and equipment, as well as the appropriate sterilization of equipment.
  • Maintains Medical Separation Logs and makes monthly calls to each separated student where required.
  • Interviews and selects staff.
  • Prepares and conducts performance evaluations.
  • Attends and presents at required staff training sessions.
  • Prepares weekly Mental Health Consultant schedule and maintains log of students receiving mental health services both on and off campus. Meets with Counseling and Mental Health Staff weekly to review new students and those receiving services.
  • Act as Co-Disability Coordinator in working with students with medical disabilities. Including entering accommodations into the CIS System. Meet with students regularly to discuss changes and possible accommodations.
  • Schedules monthly RAC Meetings with Co-Disability Coordinators and CMHC.
  • New Applicant folder review weekly or more frequently as needed.
  • Provides 24-hour availability to the academy to manage student health issues during non-training hours.
  • Provides required reports to the DOL as requested throughout the year.
  • Assists with TEAP Testing when the TEAP Specialist is not available.
  • Prepares student health records for advanced training and reviews incoming student health records for advanced training on campus.
  • Inputs and manages student medical leaves including calling the medical office for verification documentation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills
* Licensed by the State as a Registered Nurse.
* Minimum of an associate degree in nursing.
* Active, unrestricted license to practice in the state where the center is located.
* Strong working knowledge of nursing techniques/procedures.
* Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Familiarity with the medical needs of disadvantaged youth.
* Must obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid certificates. Sound management techniques. Ability to handle multiple priorities.
Required Experience

  • An Associate of Arts degree in Nursing from an accredited school is required. A bachelor's degree from an accredited school is preferred.
