Job Summary

The Department of Pharmaceutical Services is responsible for a wide range of services to patients, patient care areas, and other Hospital, Health-System and Academic departments. The Clinical Psychiatric Pharmacist 2 PD position focuses on inpatient care with an emphasis in Behavioral Health patient care areas. The Clinical Psychiatric Pharmacist 2 PD works primarily in the inpatient setting; covers select specialty services and provides distribution support to hospitalized patients. The Clinical Psychiatric Pharmacist 2 PD is responsible for directing and maintaining drug therapy across the continuum of care, providing comprehensive service-based monitoring. The Clinical Psychiatric Pharmacist 2 PD continuously seeks out interventions by making rounds with the medical teams and offering suggestions on individualized medication regimens. The pharmacist is an integral member of the health care team, also contributing to drug distribution activities, providing drug information, serving as a preceptor to pharmacy students and residents, conducting clinical research, and participating in department and hospital committees, task forces and work groups. They foster excellent interdepartmental relationships and provide quality and cost-effective pharmaceutical care to all patients, employees and medical staff of UCDMC.

Minimum Qualifications

  • California Pharmacist License eligible and possess a valid license at the time of hire
  • Doctor of Pharmacy Degree (PharmD).
  • Hospital pharmacy operations experience.
  • Previous experience with data collection and analysis and application to performance improvement.
  • Completion of a PGY1 Acute Care Residency and a minimum of 3 years of inpatient clinical pharmacy experience in Behavioral Health.
  • Complete working knowledge of, and skill and experience to apply practices, principles and techniques of patient care related to area of expertise.
  • Working knowledge of regulations and safety requirements for safe handling, preparation and administration of hazardous drugs.
  • Thorough understanding and competency with aseptic technique and safe handling of hazardous medications.
  • Ability to review and assess appropriateness/safety of physician's orders for complex regimens.
  • Demonstrated mathematical skills sufficient to accurately perform pharmacy calculations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Board Certification [e.g., Board Certified Psychiatric Pharmacist (BCPP)], or equivalent.
  • Experience with EPIC or other computerized provider order entry (CPOE) systems.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn health system regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • PGY2 in Psychiatric Residency

The Department of Pharmacy is a dynamic, integral, and critical part of patient care provided by UC Davis Health. As a department of greater than 600 professional, technical, and administrative support personnel, we focus on providing patient-centered medication management that optimizes outcomes through practice, education, research, and leadership through the continuum of care. We also have the largest pharmacy residency program in the country with 46 total residents in 13 different programs.

The Department of Pharmacy offers comprehensive pharmaceutical services (unit dose, IV admixtures, clinical services, infusion pumps, and teaching) throughout the health system complex 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The pharmacy services encompass inpatient pharmacy services as well as an expansive footprint in the ambulatory care space where we have clinical pharmacists embedded within our clinics and specialty care locations. Our operational teams support the health system enterprise with three inpatient pharmacies, five outpatient pharmacies, two infusion pharmacies, a home infusion service line, and the full complement of pharmacy purchasing, stores, and distribution.

Work Environment

Employees hired into this position will have exposure to hazardous drugs and must follow institutional policies regarding required personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe handling of hazardous drugs. Position is required to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. May be required to work occasional night shift based on department need.
