THE SALVATION ARMY NORTH & CENTRAL ILLINOIS DIVISION NORRIDGE CITADEL CORPS POSITION DESCRIPTION POSITION TITLE: Nursery Worker LOCATION/DEPT: Norridge Citadel Corps REPORTS TO: Youth Development & Ministries Director FLSA CATEGORY: Non-Exempt STATUS TYPE: FPT OUTCOMES Provide a safe environment for children ages 0-5 while they are at the Corps. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain a safe nursery environment for children under the age of 5.
- Ensure that the children's needs are met, including but not limited to changing diapers, toileting, appropriate snacks, and access to toys.
- Monitor interaction among the children.
- Maintain open communication with parents of the children.
- Supervise volunteers in the nursery, ensuring that they are assisting with childcare.
- All other duties as assigned.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS Under the general supervision of the Youth Development & Ministries Director with minimal freedom to plan, schedule and carry out responsibilities within established polices and guidelines. This individual relates to and interacts with a wide range of contacts both within and outside the Salvation Army, including staff, Officers, parents, and children. In these contacts related to this position's duties this individual acts as a representative of The Salvation Army and its mission. PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS This individual will be evaluated based on how effective the outcomes of this position are achieved, as well as the timeliness, accuracy, and completeness of accomplishing assigned goals. A 30, 60, and 90-day performance review will be conducted. EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE
- Formal education/training in child development is preferred.
- Previous experience in childcare preferred.

POSITION LIMITATIONS
- This individual will only commit Army resources that have been allocated or approved.
- This individual will keep the Youth Development & Ministries Director and Corps Officers informed on all critical issues relating to their area of responsibility.
- This individual will adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
- This position is required to do light to moderate physical work and must have be able to lift or move up to 50 lbs.
- In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to interact and care for children.
- The work environment for this position includes a nursery/childcare environment with a moderate to high noise level.
- Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters and maintains positive relationships with co-workers and supervisors. This would include but not be limited to such actions: resolution of conflicts in a positive manner; courteous treatment of staff, clients, and visitors; respect of others' property and person, professional and appropriate communication to and about co-workers, supervisors, and subordinates.
