About the Job

A Translational Pharmacology post-doctoral research position is available in the Center for Orphan Drug Research at the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy. This annually renewable position will be focused on studies in genetic diseases specifically related to biomarker discovery, and drug repurposing. The laboratory integrates several disciplines, including translational and clinical pharmacology, genetics, regulatory aspects of orphan drug development and has a strong translational focus, with activities in preclinical studies and development of therapies and biomarkers for diagnosis and treatment response.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

40% Coordinate clinical studies including (1) assist with the implementation of new clinical studies (2) Create and maintain regulatory documents and study files for study sponsors, Institutional Review Boards, and other oversight committees (3) schedule study subject visits, arrange visit related procedures and synchronize the schedules of all necessary personnel and equipment.
30% Design and perform (1) cell culture and cell-based assays (2) enzymatic reactions (3) immunoassays (4) various types of microscopy.
15% Submit periodic written reports with details of experimental procedures and results. The candidate will also be expected to give presentations, write manuscripts reporting research findings, and to participate in grant proposal writing.
5% Observe current laboratory safety practices and follow/update relevant protocols.
5% Maintain a continually updated knowledge base of literature pertaining to specific projects.
5% Assist with the organization and maintenance of the laboratory and equipment contained therein.

Supervision:
Mentor, train and supervise undergraduate, graduate and professional students, and
volunteers.

Working Conditions:
Approximately 60% of the work related to this position will take place in a laboratory setting. The other 40% of effort will take place in an office, clinics, or other research facilities.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
* Earned Doctoral degree (PhD/PharmD/MD) from an accredited college/university
The successful candidate is expected to possess basic research expertise with an interest in clinical pharmacology. This program gives the opportunity for a fellow to build on his/her basic science skills and acquire new expertise to conduct translational/clinical research. Additional qualifications include
* Strong problem-solving skills
* Good written and oral communication skills
* Self-motivated learner

Preferred Qualifications:
* Degree or previous training in genetics and/or pharmacology
* Previous laboratory experience in molecular and cellular biology research or analytical chemistry
* Demonstrated interest and aptitude in combining basic concepts with clinical need that can impact the care of patients with rare diseases, specifically lysosomal diseases.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $56,484 - $60,000; depending on education/qualifications/experience
