Overview

The EMT-Paramedic is responsible for implementing nursing/patient care based on knowledge and experience. The functions of an EMT-Paramedic are to collect patient health data, identify expected outcomes individualized to the patient, implement interventions identified in the plan of care, and evaluate the patient's progress toward attainment of the outcomes. This individual effectively interacts with the family and other interdisciplinary team members to maximize efforts and resources needed to ensure quality patient care based on established clinical practice standards. He/she works cooperatively with the medical staff and other hospital personnel who support the plan of care for addressing the multicultural and age appropriate care of adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. The EMT-Paramedic addresses the patient/family biological, emotional, developmental, psychosocial and educational needs while serving as a clinical resource to physicians, other personnel and management. In addition to supporting the organizational vision and mission, the EMT-Paramedic is able to independently perform job functions, contribute to the provision of quality nursing care through performance improvement activities, and is responsible for self-development.

Qualifications:

A. Education

1. High school diploma or GED from an accredited institute required

2. Graduate of an accredited school of EMT-Paramedic

B. Licensure/Certification

1. Valid Driver's license and driving record in accordance with facility policy

2. Current Georgia EMS Paramedic license

3. BCLS certification required annually

4. ACLS certification encouraged

5. Certification in a related specialty encouraged
