ATS is seeking to fill a full-time Temporary In-Facility Counselor position. In-Facility Counselor (Temporary) to provide services at outside work site, Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Temporary period is 6 months maximum with opportunity for a regular position. Under the direct supervision of the In-facility Correctional Services Supervisor, the full-time In-Facility Counselor provides assessment and treatment planning services, progress notes, discharge documentation, individual and group education counseling (family counseling as needed), continuing and aftercare services for Hawaii State sentenced offenders participating in correctional treatment continuum funded by the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. The Hawaii State Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation services must be in accordance with the recommendation of the CPC (Correctional Program Checklist) Coordinating Committee to insure our services are utilizing evidence-based practices of cognitive-behavioral and social learning models. Assists supervisor with maintaining effective liaison with various representatives of DCR. Complies with rules, regulations, and program requirements as defined by contracts with DCR. The counselor must adhere to the expectation and guidelines that are noted in the volunteer and contract handbook (including the Federal mandated PREA guidelines, Prison Rape Elimination Act) training offered by DCR for all new contract staff and volunteers.

Requires a Bachelors degree in a behavioral health field, and at least two years of experience in the substance abuse field. Masters degree and/or Hawaii State Substance Abuse Counselor Certification (CSAC) preferred. Three years experience working directly with incarcerated and/or sentenced offenders is preferred. Must have at least six months direct involvement in individual and group treatment. Demonstrated abilities and skills regarding verbal and written communications, maturity, insight and sound judgment. Knowledge and experience in working with offenders is required. Must be eligible for counselor State certification within two years of hire.
