HAWAIIAN & PACIFIC ISLANDS DIVISION

DEPARTMENT: Kahului Corps

POSITION TITLE: Youth Leader/ Program Assistant

SUPERVISOR: Corps Officers

FLSA STATUS: Full Time

JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for the planning, preparing and developing of all TSA youth related programs; i.e. Sunday school, after school programs, YPL, camps and troops. As well as, assisting with various duties as assigned by the Corps Officer, for programs within Maui County.

RELIGIOUS SUMMARY: Although this position does not require or confer ordination, this is a "ministry position." Only Christians with a demonstrated strong personal faith and agreement with the teaching of Holy Scripture as explained in The Salvation Army "Articles of War" and the "Handbook of Doctrine" will be considered for this position.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Retain a valid Driver's license, be able to drive Salvation Army vehicles (including a 15-passenger van) and pass all necessary background checks.
  • Computer proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher
  • Be able to communicate via email
  • Be able to keep confidential matters and materials confidential
  • Must learn, be aware of, implement and observe all "Protecting the Mission" policies. (Salvation Army internal child safety procedures.)
  • Must be motivated and a self-starter
  • Must be a Team Player and Dependable
  • Have a valid High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Ability to plan, implement and evaluate outreach programs
  • Ability to work and conduct business in a professional manner


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:



  • 4 year Bible college graduate
  • Be a uniform-wearing Salvationist with a good Christian witness.
  • Two or more years of experience in Salvation Army programs.
  • Possess a thorough working knowledge of, and give competent instruction in, Salvation Army doctrine.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:



  • Prepare curriculum for & lead or assist with Troops, Singing Company, Bible Bowl Team, Junior Soldiers, Corps Cadets, & Sunday School.
  • Plan youth events that help expand the youth ministry and invite the community.
  • Plan, coordinate and supervise Divisional Youth Rally and Divisional Music Camp weekends.
  • Develop and Supervise volunteer staff for pick up and drop off routes.
  • Supervise volunteers relative to Sunday School and Youth Program Staff and all fund raisers.
  • Plan, attend and supervise youth fundraising for youth camps, trips, and YPL.
  • Assist important family/school events as appropriate for youth group participants.
  • Develop contests/incentives etc. to increase youth programs.
  • Make home visits to families where kids attend and other household member don't. The goal here is to include/invite the rest of the family to the child's church activities.
  • Develop and expand volunteerism in all aspects of the youth department. (Driving, fundraising, teaching and/or assisting, food preparation)
  • Attend youth camps as necessary (on Oahu at Camp Homelani)
  • Represent The Salvation Army at community functions as designated by the Corps Officers.
  • Provide and maintain statistical data and prepare and submit reports as required for youth programs.
  • Assist Corps Officers with the Back to School campaign, Holiday Meals, Christmas Kettle campaign and the Angel Tree Program.
  • Supervise volunteers and community service workers as needed at events and holiday programs.
  • Provide and maintain statistical data and prepare and submit reports as directed for other Maui County Programs.


AREAS OF SPECIAL EMPHASIS:



  • Introduction into community relations and operation of thrift store, community programs, outpost operations, disaster services, homeless program and other community-based ministries.
  • Client interaction and information, telephone conversation should be directed to the responsible manager and kept confidential.
  • Accurate and timely submission of reports.
