About the Position
The Food Production Worker prepares healthy food which is provided to the MCSO inmate population and instructs inmates on kitchen tasks. This position is involved in all aspects of food preparation, operating in a safe and secure manner within a jail environment.

* Shift Schedule possibilities include:

1st Shift works 6:00 am to 2:00 pm for 5 days a week, with 2 days off in a row. 2nd Shift works from Noon to 10:00 pm 4 days per week, with 3 days off in a row.

Successful candidates will have two weeks of training on 1st shift. During that training, you will be assigned to either 1st or 2nd shift.

Please understand after training you will be given a set schedule and will be assigned a shift and days off, according to the needs of the department.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years old and eligible to work in the United States.
  • Food Production Worker must complete a program approved by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
  • Current Food Handler's cards are acceptable if unexpired.
  • Must possess, or have the ability to obtain by the time of hire, a valid Arizona driver's license.
  • Training that may beprovided on-the-job: FEMA NIMS - IS100 and 700; Safety; payroll; PREA.
  • Prior to hiring, the Sheriff's Office requires that all candidates pass a background check.

Our Preferred Candidate has:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two (2) or more years of general experience in food preparation and service.

ESSENTIAL JOB TASKS:

  • Prepares inmate meals and special diets.
  • Instructs inmates in all work areas of the kitchen, loading dock, and related areas.
  • Documents all activities in the incident logbook.
  • Performs computer tasks using Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Operates various commercial kitchen equipment, forklifts, and electric pallet jacks safely.
  • Monitors equipment and reports repair needs to maintenance.
  • Performs utensil, tool, key, and inmate accountability throughout the shift.
  • Assigns and instructs inmates and Detention personnel on kitchen tasks.
  • Instructs Detention and Civilian personnel to safely operate commercial kitchen equipment.
  • Conducts inventory, orders supplies, and monitors delivery of supplies from the Warehouse.
  • Ensures the assigned work area and kitchen equipment are maintained and clean.
  • Maintains Environmental Health code compliance. (HACCP).
  • Oversees distribution of meals.
  • Maintains Occupational Safety and Health Administration compliance.
  • Prepares and writes reports and memos.
  • Drives Maricopa County Sheriff's Office vehicles for assigned activities, and loads/unloads trucks.
  • Monitors chemical usage in the production area.
  • Maintains inventory and equipment control.
  • Performs safety checks on food service equipment.
  • Attends briefings, meetings, and special events.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by Food Production Shift Supervisor.
  • Be present at work site to perform tasks as scheduled and/or assigned by supervisor.

Work occurs indoors in a food plant environment in a jail facility. Tasks require manual dexterity to operate kitchen equipment and may involve long periods of standing and/or walking. Position involves teamwork and ability to interact with and oversee adult inmates in food preparation.

  • Proper food handling and food preparation techniques in compliance with health standards.
  • Microsoft Office Suite applications.

  • Cleaning and sanitizing food service facilities and equipment.
  • Operating a variety of kitchen and office equipment.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

Ability to:
  • Instruct and lead others in the preparation and service of meals.
  • Appropriately portion meals and prepare food for special diets.
  • Conduct inspections and safety checks to ensure all safety standards are being followed.
  • Prepare production reports.

    SELECTION PROCEDURE:
